VLM Airlines (Slovenia) to introduce service from Maribor to Belgrade on 09 October 2017, with plans to eventually (who knows when?) serve Berlin, Hamburg, London, Podgorica, Zurich, Xi’an, Chongqing and Nanchang.

And Antwerp?

I think that VLM is going to start operations from Antwerp as it gets Belgian AOC. Until than i guess that they will concentrate on Maribor operations. My guess is that we can expect them to operate BEG, MUC and ZRH this winter from Maribor (MBX).

I doubt it will be VLM unless VLM Slovenia is going to do the flights which would be the ultimate humiliation... A Slovenian subsidiary of a (by title) Belgian company operating with Belgian registered planes and Belgian pilots flying from Belgium. Don't think this will be the case, don't see the Belgian CAA giving VLM Slovenia the rights to fly the route while witholding the AOC for the (by title) Belgian parent company.

I don't think the Belgian CAA can stop VLM Slovenia from operating a route from Belgium. Slovenia is part of the European Union.

They can't. Within the EU any carrier of a member state can basically perform any flight within or between member states. That's how EasyJet and Ryanair happened :)

Also, most rules concerning administration and safety are written on a European level these days as well. If that begs the question as to why issuing AOC's is still done by member states or why VLM would want both AOC's... well, I can't answer those :)

It is completely true that an AOC from any country in EU gives you the possibility to operate flights from any airport within EU. However there are cases as Eurowings which uses several AOCs. For instance Eurowings "mainline" uses German AOC and its subsidiary Eurowings Europe uses an Austrian AOC. Does anyone know why? What is a benefit of using an AOC of a country where you are operating from (Eurowings Europe operates most of its flights from Vienna and Salzburg). I assume that there are at least some benefits, because if there were not why would airlines invest in getting another AOC? And why is does VLM Airlines want also Belgian AOC so much?

According to Slovenian AOC, VLM Airlines may not operate in any kind of low visibility conditions. What influence does that have to winter operations, when weather conditions are mostly not as good as in summer?

Thank you for your answers!

Isn't the low vis condition being dictated by the capabilities of the plane in combination with the pilots abilities?

I guess the AOC wasn't the problem. Until the end of October, DAT (Danish AOC) operates this route for CityJet (Irish AOC?), no Belgian AOC involved...

Mariborchanka, I suggest you consult the thread on Antwerp airport to see the uncertainty surrounding the ANR-LCY link. We contacted a VLM spokesman who said nothing was decided yet.

I actually see a 'Fokker' aircraft for this route on Travel Genio.

All the other weird mentions of (non-existing) airlines actually comes down to however quickly these sites update their IATA codes. These flights are indicated as 'operated by VO' which used to be Austrian Arrows and/or Tyrolean but nowadays refers to VLM Slovenia.

Same for the actual flight numbers: Hahn Air is an airline that really only exists to allow other airlines to get their flights in all the reservation systems. They reserve blocks of numbers following their IATA code of H1 for each of their customers. VLM Slovenia got H11200 to H11249 which probably used to belong to... Borajet. So whatever combination of Hahn Air, Austrian Arrows, Tyrolean Airways and Borajet you might see... it's all VLM.

TL;DR: Don't trust these booking sites to be correct and up to date.
