A 24-hour strike at Barcelona airport: security staff strike
Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2017
I read that the strike is unlimited. But even so, by law, they must provide a minimum duty of 90%. The Guardia Civil and the police will take over the remaining 10% and the traffic at the airport should not be affected too much.

Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2017
I was there last 2 weeks ago and although not officially striking it was already pure chaos.
There were also notices posted next to the entrance doors that describe a volcanic climate in there.
Not so diplomatic language but clear for sure.
Another variation on the Catalan independence : the independence of the working class.
Hard to believe there can be a winner in this fight, certainly not the traveller.
And in the endless rivalry between Madrid en Barcelona, MAD T4 was pretty smooth last week though run by the same AENA of course.

Passengers traveling to and from Spanish airports in the coming months might face delays or even cancellations as the unions of Spanish airport operator AENA have “scheduled” 25 days of strikes. If the current negotiations for better pay and working conditions are not progressing the first strike will happen on 15 September.

Who said on another thread that nobody strikes just for fun?!
Maybe, but it usually carries a nice name, like warning strke, preemptive strike, preventive strike etc...
Anything goes provided they can give hell to people and alleviate their frustration...

Probably one of the funniest strikes in this topic: the staff from Starbucks went on strike today. However, because job students were present, the coffee shop remained open.

This Friday (15th September), somewhere between 05h00 and 23h00, the KLM cabin crew will go on strike for one hour. Reason (= what the trade unions call "reason"): KLM doesn't want to give in on their -1 CA rule (one less cabin crew member on 40% of the long haul flights).

Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2017
There is some good news to report, regarding strikes: the federal government has prepared a bill (wetsontwerp / project de loi) that will introduce "minimal service level" when Belgian Rail goes on strike. The bill still has to go through parliament, but all political parties supporting the government, have already agreed. The bill has been made public on 7th Sept 2017:Yuqu12 wrote: ↑07 Sep 2017, 19:04 Welcome in Belgium, the land where the Ministery of Transport doesn't do a single bit (we are waiting 4 years for a national aviation law). But beside that, the government can't do that much against these strikes or send other staff, as the civil airports are privatized here and thus they don't have to react...

Let's hope the next bill will deal with "minimal service level at airports". Our government can use the Portugese legislation as guideline. Such new bill probably won't prohibit wildcat strikes like the latest Swissport thing, but strikes by public servants can be countered then.
