BMI Regional (UK) plans to acquire multiple 80-100 seat aircraft from 2019 to replace up to 25% of its current fleet which consists of the sole Embraer ERJ135 and ERJ145 aircraft.

Initial batch will be four to six aircraft, to be bought or leased.

BMI Regional was in the run to offer wet-leased aircraft to Brussels Airlines, but lost to CityJet. With larger aircraft they might have a new chance in the future...

Bankruptcy indeed is confirmed - InselAir International (Curaçao) states that they are not involved, and that only InselAir Aruba is declared bankrupt. InselAir International, though also in suspension of payment, reports things are improving:

Bad news regarding the Captain Jack Aviation Theme Park, to be constructed at Sunparks Mol: The French owners of Sunparks have ended the negociations with Bobbejaan Schoepen about the sub-lease. Captain Jack would lease a part of Sunparks' parking, but the French owners say no.

It was 35 years ago, ouch that hurts, in June 1982, when Capt Moody went through an experience that later lead to the creation of the ASHTAM.
Speedbird 9 had departed KL and was heading towards SYD when, flying at high altitude at night over the Indian Ocean, this B742 initially experienced something like St Elmo fire around the cockpit windows. Later an engine started coughing, leading to it being shut down. Within minutes the other engines suffered the same problem which ended in transforming a 747 into a glider.

Without knowing its existence, and its potential consequences, BA009 had flown through a cloud of ashes projected by the eruption of a volcano in Java.
They succeeded to relight the engines one by one and diverted to Jakarta, only to discover that the windshield had been sandblasted, dramatically reducing the forward visibility. So they went for an ILS approach but were informed that the GS was u/s…

I read the book written by one of the passenger and she reports with details what they went through. A twist of British humour was inevitably present and helped keeping the atmosphere on board from turning frantic.
Capt Moody : (after receiving multiple malfunction alarms O² mask inop for the FO , disagree speed and altitude indications, …) "Had I asked for coffee I wouldn’t have been surprised they’d told me the coffee machine was broken".
Purser : "Rest assured Madam that unless you see the crew rushing towards the back of the plane wearing a parachute, the situation is totally under control."

Nevertheless, what they achieved is outstanding and they received awards including for the flight crew their licence of glider pilot (that Eric Moody already had).
The aircraft was ferried back to UK after engine changes and was later put back in service with the nickname … The Flying Ashtray.

Not really 2017 news, but very interesting story, even if it has been told many times over those 35 years, especially during that long-lasting eruption of the ....kull in Iceland.

And there are not enough words to describe what the flight deck did during that emergency.

Thanks for reminding us, H.A.

80 years ago, on 2nd July 1937, Amelia Earhart dissappeared. Today, an expedition heads for Nikumaroro (an Island 1,000 miles from Fiji) in a new search to find her remains - and her aircraft.

Approach, Bollywood style.

Some time ago I noticed that SN601 had been given delay vectors on arrival to BOM.
Not the classic 360 a la BCN when ATC gives priority to an IB or VY, no : a real show with more than one holding racetrack.

This is the arrival of yesterday 03JUL. Courtesy FR24.

Four different arrivals of SN601.

Is this welcome service reserved to SN only ?
No, national or foreign airlines, domestic of international service ...

Is 23:00 so busy or do they have so little assistance from their radar software to process these flights properly by adjusting speed well in time?

I thought India had the best computer specialists of the world.Apparently not good enough to devise an efficient ATC system. :D

OO-SFN flying SN286 ABJ-BRU departed right on time but landed with a 2-hour delay this morning.
She went straight after departure towards DKR heading NW after take-off instead of the standard northerly course towards Ouaga.
Screenshot 2017-07-05 08.24.35.png
Landed DKR at 23:45z and took-off again at 01:05 so a turnaround of less than one hour.
Anybody the reason for this?
Though FR24 shows "diverted" to DKR and Flightstats also gives an STD of 06:05 in BRU with actual at 08:25, Brussels Airport web site does not report the flight.
