That's indeed some great news.

It appears that Charleroi is becoming bigger and bigger every day now.

Great news?
Lets wait and see if they really take-off.

Their website is a mess - nothing but 'error 404 not found' messages -, and it all looks a bit unprofessional.

Lets hope that this doesn’t influence the plans of Air Sénégal International - a subsidiary of Royal Air Maroc -, to start-up services to BRU in 2005.

In La Dernière Heure, the news was quite different:

In short: it is not Senegal Airways, but Air Sénégal International, a subsidiary of Royal Air Maroc, which would ensure connections to other cities in the region, including in Gambia. The plane is a 757, not a 737. Weekly flights would start in October, if the runway in Charleroi is long enough for a fully loaded 757...

Oh yeah

According to Aero International, AtlasBlue, the charter subsidary of RAM, will start services to Belgium before the end of the year if every thing works fine. The service would be done with a B737-400.

So it's maybe Atlasblue which will do the flights to Charleroi

Air Sénégal International is indeed interested in the Brussels market, as I already mentioned.

BIAC and BSCA are both eager to get the contract.

Having said that, Air Sénégal International has no B757s in their fleet ...

Air Senegal has 3 737 in its fleet:

B737-7BX
6V-AHN
6V-AHO

B737-2B6
6V-AHK

And ordered on 27 May 2004 another B737-700.

And one DHC-8 is also operating for them.
DHC-8-106
6V-AGZ

According to the JP they only have one Dash-8-315 and not -106. Its registration is 6V-AHL.

Thus, an eventual B757 should be leased at short notice?

Hi
May be there is a confuse
- Air Senegal International (ASI) a subsidiary of Royal Air Maroc is the national Compagny of Senegal
Two other compagnies exist (plus a local/domestic one)
- Senegal Air planned to link Dakar vith Paris CDG with a DC10 but never fly
- Senegal Airways a new one
The two last ones are typical "paper compagny" which is commun in africa, the both have a web site that all, but no aircraft
To my knowledge ASI certainlly will wait the 3rd 737-700 due in 2005 to start new lines in Europe as presently with the 2 existing ones they are very short in aircraft disponibility and no flight to BRU or CRL are planned soon.
To come back to DKR to CRL flight may be it's one of Senegal Air or Senegal Airways who will fly chartering an aircraft somewhere!
In Africa since the Air Afrique close a lot of compagnies start operations mainly to Franceusing arcraft cghartered but without succes
wait and see
Michel

It's always good news to see new carriers arriving.
But... indeed rumors abound, and many start ups never actually take to the skies...

For who's already flown to CRL from non-Schengen destinations, you might have noticed that the immigration hall is already too small for the passengers of one 737 (even with a vast majority of European passengers who just need to "flash" their ID card to the 2 agents) and the "S"-shaped line seems quite long. So can they really handle the load of a widebody where most passengers would require their visa and passport checked?

I also wonder why BSCA would be so discreet about it so far. They made so much publicity around the arrival of WizzAir or Air Polonia, you'd think they would greet their first intercontinental service better! ;-)
