Eurowings to take delivery of 17 Q400s and 13 A320s from Lufthansa’s acquisition of LGW (Germany), along with 20 A320s from the acquisition of NIKI (Austria).

Eurowings also plans to acquire additional aircraft on the market and hire 1,300 more employees, as its fleet is projected to grow from 160 to 210 aircraft, with 21 being long-haul aircraft.

The number of employees is expected to grow from current 7,000 to roughly 10,000.

Eurowings CEO Thorsten Dirks says his airline should get a revenue boost of more than €1 billion a year from the Lufthansa deal to buy part of Air Berlin. Eurowings could also absorb the short-haul business of Alitalia if Lufthansa struck a deal to buy parts of the Italian carrier.

Quite complex (or is it chaotic) situation , if you ask me. Difficult to keep the oversight...at least for those watching on the sideline, but probably also for those in the midst of it.

All flights using the Germanwings 4U code will migrate to the Eurowings code EW from 1 November, six months earlier than anticipated.

It's even more than that: Eurowings' appetite is big! Eurowings will lease one A319 from Czech Airlines in November 2017 to support operations, mainly out of Munich and Stuttgart. Eurowings will also use one Air Europa B737-800 on selected Stuttgart service, and one SunExpress Germany B737-800 to/from Dusseldorf.

Could those Q400's become an internal solution for Brussels Airlines' thin routes? (whether we like it or not...)

Eurowings plans to create 675 jobs in Hannover ahead of launching new destinations in 2018.

And take over the SN route from BRU to HAJ with those new Q400s?

Lufthansa Group subsidiary Brussels Airlines will operate long-haul flights for LCC Eurowings from Düsseldorf, Germany, starting in summer 2018, Eurowings MD-operations Michael Knitter confirmed to ATW. “We need their expertise for further growth,” he said. According to Knitter, Brussels Airlines will transfer one Airbus A330 from its Belgian hub in Brussels to Düsseldorf. The carrier will also add two former Lufthansa A340-300s to its fleet to operate long-haul.

It’s one of the new A330’s, no reduction for SN.

I still have a hard time believing it's good news for SN from BRU ... The new "less old" planes could eventually all go to DUS. We have to develop EW...

EW crew sent an open letter to Air Berlin crew about bad working conditions in EW.
http://www.austrianaviation.net/detail/ ... index.html
A very short summary of the Open Letter from Eurowings Europe employees (cockpit and cabin crews) based in Vienna on the very bad pay and working conditions at some EW bases outside Germany, especially Vienna and Palma. A captain based in Vienna earns a basic net salary of 3,000 euros.
Eurowings looks to hire ex-Air Berlin pilots exclusively at its Austrian subsidiary, after a failed collective bargaining with its pilots’ union.

Not sure this will improve social relations... But Air Berlin pilots must be desperate for jobs, hence they will accept almost any offer.
