Eurowings seems to be adjusting to the Belgian work morale rather quick, even before SN's integration has been decided.

It has been reported that Eurowings might take over the Swiss flights from Geneva. Swiss is indeed losing money on those flights, because easyJet is the main operator at Geneva with 40% of the traffic.

However, Swiss might retain the Geneva-New York route between the two major headquarters of the UN.

It is not known how and by whom the flights to London City (needing special aircraft) would be operated if Eurowings takes over.

Austrian Airlines dismissed fears that it could become part of Eurowings (Germany), adding that the latter is complementary rather than competition. Austrian also announced plans to invest US$105 million in their premium brand.

And what about Brussels Airlines?

Eurowings will launch flights out of a new base in Salzburg from 12 January 2017 with one based A320, eventually flying to 10 destinations: Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne / Bonn, Brussels, Paris, Mallorca, Olbia, Split, Dubrovnik and Thessaloniki.

Belair (Switzerland) could be shut down as part of restructuring of Air Berlin, if flights are transferred to NIKI . Eurowings might lease the three Belair planes to gain a foothold in the Swiss market.

Eurowings coming to Frankfurt

Beginning in Summer 2018, Lufthansa’s low cost carrier, Eurowings, will begin serving Frankfurt as the LH Group seeks to stem the competition coming from other European LCCs.

In an article published in Airliners.de, Eurowings boss Karl Ulrich Garnadt stated that due to the pressures seen coming from Ryanair and others, it made good business sense to counter the new competition. Ryanair plans to begin service to Frankfurt this spring.

Such a move is made easier due to the fact that Eurowings will inherit 33 aircraft in the coming months after Lufthansa agreed to lease the aircraft from Air Berlin. This is of course in addition to the aircraft that will join Eurowings after the acquisition of Brussels Airlines closes. In all, the Eurowings fleet will grow to nearly 120 aircraft making it easier to operate from large hubs and to take on their competitors directly.

Previously, Eurowings announced that it will begin flying from Lufthansa’s other Mega-Hub in Munich in March. The initial timetable calls for flights to 32 cities throughout Europe, mostly towards ‘Holiday’ type destinations.

Eurowings expressed interest in launching services from Munich and Dusseldorf to Skopje.

Eurowings is studying whether it can start flying from Frankfurt beginning summer 2018, in order to compete with Ryanair which also will launch flights from Frankfurt's main airport.

Eurowings to start new service from from Vienna to Santorini on 05 May, from Hannover to Cagliari on 21 May, from Cologne/Bonn to Karpathos on 05 June 2017.

If you consider that of all those AB aircraft, 20 will be used to replace (very) old aircraft currently in their fleet (I thought Germanwings, they have a very old fleet), the growth is not really that agressive or unnatural. It's a rapid growth, but under wet lease agreements that requires a limited initial investment and contrary to Swissair, EW is backed-up by a lot more capital via LHG.

That's not actual growth by EW, that's integrating SN ops in EW. If you see that as "aggressive, unnatural growth", than you can say that for every airline merger of take-over followed by a partly or full integration (in this case an 'integration' by keeping sperate entities under the same group/platform)...

Correct, but normally such take-overs happen by very profitable large airlines that have proven that their concept works. Here it's different: Eurowings in still loss making (if I'm not mistaken). Is it proven that their concept works? not to me!

Cheers,

I guess you're corrrect Stij, but LH will be backing up EW more than enough so that EW doesn't become even more loss making. LH itself has the profits to do so.
