Nor does the SN code appear on any connecting flights beyond BOM. There is still a lot to improve apparently.

Today monday is the official first flight to BOM with Minister De Crem. SN is waiting 60.000 passengers/year on this route. It's 115 passenger on each flight...it's really not much unless they do not count flight back...No code share with AI till now ! Or it do not appear on the BRU website...

It says 60.000 pasengers/year. I take it as an average on 12 months; not for the remaining 9 months. Moreover, we don't know what will be the frequency in the winter.

What would be the average PAX number per flight in order to secure the sustainability of the BRU-BOM ops?

I think the 60,000 is a wrong interpretation...it shouldn't be read as number of passenger but as the potential of local pax between the to cities (in the last normal full year 2015 60000 people traveled between Mumbai and Belgium), but of course the total pax number also includes a very wide range of transfer pax (Africa, Europe and North America as well as onward via Mumbai to other Indian destinations). Since the start the average load factor is around 75%, which is from a load perspective on the spot.

In a press conference for Indian journalists, Brussels Airlines CEO said that the debut of the Mumbai route was very positive. The return flight to Brussels with the economic mission to India was full yesterday, and Mr. Gustin (travelling on a staff ticket) had to remain on the tarmac :)

During the first four weeks, the load factor exceeded the expectations: 75% on BRU-BOM and even 85% on BOM-BRU. Bernard Gustin nevertheless remained cautious and said we should wait 2 or 3 years to evaluate the return on investment. If after that the route is still is the red, he will draw the conclusions. But if it is successful, the frequency might increase to daily flights, and another route might be launched to New Delhi (I still quote Bernard Gustin).

A real example would be returning on a jumpseat iso in a first class seat of another airline.

Returning on a jumpseat wouldn't be necessarily a real example as you say, it happen often that airlines have some seat available on their flight and still can't take the stand by passenger because of weight restriction if there is lot of cargo. Like it's probably the case in India
