JetAirways dropped Chennai after a few months (a year?). If I remember correctly, it was a daily. Maybe too much for that destination.

No, Chennai was much longer and I think it was performing well (ones visited the Jet Airways operations at BRU and they explained numbers and other things). It was Bangalore that was started and operated only for a short time. The problem was that they did not open another destination in the USA/Canada at the same time (my guess) ...

If I remember well, it was MAA - BRU - JFK. until 2012. When SN opened JFK, 9W closed it fastly after.

Hi all,

With three months of full operation to Mumbai we might check the LF development. However I don't have the type of A330 used during the months of May and June. Anyone can help here?

As was the case for April, the months of May and June saw 22 retour flights to Mumbai (if none were cancelled), can anyone confirm?

Depending on the used plane the capacity was between 11.440 and 12.496 seats offered.

In May there were 9181 pax, so LF between 73,47 and 80,25
In June there were 9722 pax, so LF between 77,80 and 84,98

It is clear the route is doing better and better. Curious what will happen in the next months. If I am not wrong the 'high season' for India is November-February, or is that not true?

Danny

PS: I know this is not how they calculate it (normally they compare the RPK against the ASK), but it should give the same results, not ...

In May, the route was operated 4 times by a -300. In June, only once. The -200 has 264 seats, the -300 288 seats. I'll let you do the rest of the math. ;)

Courtesy of FR24 (and free time thanks to Windows update on my other laptop ;)
Here is what I got :

A/C Flights
A332 (OO-SFT) 34 45%
A332 (OO-SFU) 6 8%
A332 (OO-SFY) 8 11%
A332 (OO-SFZ) 13 17%
A333 (OO-SFX) 14 19%
Total 75 100%

Month Flights
3 2
4 20
5 22
6 22
7 9
Total 75

Now as DW said : I'll let you crunch the numbers

Hi DeltaWiskey,

In the in-flight magazine of SN it is stated that the A332 has 260 and the A333 has 284 seats. The figures might be wrong though ... Where did you get your figures from?

I will calculate when having confirmation on the capacity of the SN planes ...

Danny

I'll take your word for it, DeltaWiskey, as you generally seem to know what you're talking about ( 8-) ), although seatguru indicates 272 seats on SN's -200. (Al Gore would ask for a recount ;) )

For June, there were 9722 pax for 11664 seats available (264x21x2+288x1x2) i.e. a l/f of 83.35%.

For May, 9181 pax for 11808 seats available (264x18x2+288x4x2) i.e. a l/f of 77.75%.

Hi Convair,

Thanks for doing the maths :D ... I am on holidays, and not always online + a little bit lazy ;)

With these figures, which are surprisingly good (at the end of the day the rout is only 3 months old), can we expect to have: 1) additional frequencies; 2) use of A333 or 3) a combination of both, starting with the winter season?

Since I understood that the flight to/from Toronto are doing well (e.g. because of the free entrance to national parks), I expect they will sustain 5 flights/week on that route during the winter season as well ...

Any thoughts on that?

D

Seatguru isn't up-to-date then. Last year, with the introduction of economy privilege, 1 row of ecenomy seats was removed from the -200's, the -300's had just a slight repitch of the first economy class rows.

The difference between load factor and seat occupancy factor is that in the first one distance is taken into account (so RSK/ASK). If you are just calculating it for one route LF=SOF, but if you are comparing multiple routes, it can vary quite a bit.

Re Toronto: last I heard (about a month ago) is that the summer season is performing well, but that the winter season is struggling / below expectations. I don't expect any changes for Toronto soon.

Hi Danny,

30 days in April. No flights on WED and SUN so 30 - 4 - 5 = 21 flights.

When I checked FR24 I looked for the outbound flights and there is none on 20APR.
Further to your post I just checked for the SN602 and bingo there was well a return flight on 21APR (departing BOM at 01:05 LT), operated by good ol' SFU.
So I guess there must have been a stealthy SN601 on that Saturday, unreported by FR24.

The total for April should then be 21 rotations, but that's the best I can do for you ;)

Taking that into account, the 7916 pax of April represent a lf of 69.8%.
