Sukhoi Civil Aircraft announced an agreement with Italy’s ENAC, confirming acceptance of SSJ100 aircraft exported into Italy with an “Export Certificate of Airworthiness” issued by FATA in accordance with current Russian Regulation and in compliance with the European Requirements and type design.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft says that SSJ100 winglets can reduce fuel consumption by 3% in the long term. Flight tests will begin in December 2017.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft must decide by the first quarter of 2018 about whether to begin developing a smaller or larger variant of the SSJ100. The engine choice is still to be weighed.

CityJet plans to retire its 13 Avro RJ85s by end of 2019, pending certification of the SSJ100 for London City operations which begins in 2018.

Nicaragua plans to acquire three SSJ100s for its planned national carrier, while expanding Managua International Airport under a deal with Russia.

Sukhoi is calling the new winglets on the SSJ100 “Saberlets”. :)

The first test flight of a Sukhoi SSJ100 equipped with those new winglets took place today:

Russia plans selling 30 SSJ100s in 2018, and more than half of them on the Russian market.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (Russia) built 34 SSJ100s in 2017, up 55% year-on-year, with the delivery of between 170 and 180 airliners in the next five years, at a rate of 35 to 40 per year. The company also expects overall demand in the 100-seat segment to exceed 2,300 aircraft in 2017 through 2036.

Sukhoi has announced today at the Singapore Air Show that it is launching a smaller, 75-seat derivative of the SSJ100.

S7 Airlines (Russia) is reportedly interested in buying 100 SSJ100s, but in a 75-seat, rather than its normal 98-seat, version.

The Government of Russia has allocated US$1.5 billion to upgrade the SSJ100, using mostly Russian components and PD-10s engines. The new version of SSJ100 will see the number of seats reduced from 98 to 75.

Air Kyrgyzstan is interested in buying used SSJ100s and the new MS-21s, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

Used SSJ100s? Already?

The type is in commercial use now for 7 years with the first examples far from being up to later standards and often delivered to unstable Russian/Asian carriers that went through rough times over the years (some still existing, others not). So I wouldn't be surprised if there are quite some SSJ's to be found on the second hand market.

Aero Mongolia signs LOI with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft for two potential SSJ100 aircraft, with deliveries in 2019.

Severstal (Russia) agreed to acquire six SSJ100s on 12-year leases from Ilyushin Finance, delivering from October 2018 through 2021. The SSJs will replace the carrier’s CRJ900s.

Russia will inject US$95 million into the SSJ100 programme to increase sales of the regional aircraft. The money will be used to help develop new variants, decrease dependence on foreign suppliers, open new markets, and create a turnaround pool of spare parts.

A way to avoid a US ban on sales to countries like Iran?
