Big orders from Middle East airlines at Le Bourget

Postby sn26567 » 18 Jun 2003, 16:53

The airlines of the Middle East (Qatar, Emirates, Gulf Air,...) are aligning big contracts for huge numbers of marge planes (A380, A340, ...) at the Paris Air Show.

However, their home market is very small. What do they expect to do with such fleets? Not everyone can repeat the success of Singapore, especially if they cannot serve alcohol aboard.

Of course, if they fail, their respective countries have enough oil to get them out of the red.

But I still wonder :?:

André,

I think they will be a hub for flights between the west and the east. I also wonder if they can fly whit so much big aircrafts. A question, when will these aircrafts be delivered?

The A380s are scheduled for 2006-2007. But Noël Forgeard, CEO of Airbus, has already said that new orders for the A380 would not be delivered before 2008.

The new Airbus programme seems to be a big success. Also for our national Belgian industry...
