Re: Ryanair in 2015
If the aircraft is based at Charleroi instead of Copenhagen, it'll leave earlier in the morning and come back later in the evening. A good thing for us, especially for the day-trippers - God bless the Danish unions !sn26567 wrote:As a result, CPH flights will be operated non-based aircraft.

Re: Ryanair in 2015
Ryanair said yesterday that it will pull its base from Copenhagen after a ruling by the Danish Labour Court that Copenhagen airport staff had the right to refuse to service its flights in a dispute over workers' rights.
After the court ruling the Services Union, which is a member of the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions (LO), said that it would commence strike action against Ryanair on July 18 unless a collective agreement is negotiated with the airline before then.
A spokesman for LO admitted that the union has not been able to establish contact with any of the approximately 50 Ryanair staff currently based in Denmark.
Speaking to the Irish Independent he said: "We don't want Ryanair to leave, we want them to stay but with a Danish collective agreement for those who are working in Denmark."
"We are still looking for negotiations. For us it is not a quest to get Ryanair out of Denmark, it is a question of them having a collective agreement like any other flight company," he said.
A Ryanair spokesman said the decision to move from Copenhagen is final.

Re: Ryanair in 2015
Not all press comments agree that the problem is solved by relocating the only aircraft that was “based” in Kopenhagen:sn26567 wrote:Ryanair to move one aircraft based at CPH to Kaunas following Danish Labour Court ruling. As a result, CPH flights will be operated non-based aircraft.
“Ryanair is facing one of the biggest challenges to its low-cost model after the Irish airline lost a court case that could in effect make it impossible for the carrier to fly from Denmark... Ryanair said it would continue to operate 12 routes into Copenhagen using aeroplanes based outside Denmark... The ruling means Ryanair would be highly unlikely to find workers to refuel and clean its aircraft or handle baggage, while passengers could be blockaded by striking workers." (Financial Times)
"The ruling entails barring members of unions from doing work for Ryanair, thus effectively making it impossible for the airline to operate out of Copenhagen Airport. The ruling also means that the Flight Personnel Union and The Services Union both have the right to demand a collective agreement with Ryanair, which the airline has thus far flatly declined to enter into negotiations on... Jan Villadsen, head of the 3F Transport union: “The ruling means that the Danish model can function as a safeguard against social dumping when big international corporations want to start up operations in Denmark and do business without respecting their employees’ rights”. (The Local, Denmark)
As a passenger, I absolutely hate strikes and blockades. But Ryanair can easily prevent a strike: Ryanair can accept that trade unions are staff representatives and Ryanair can respect local labour legislation. Otherwise it is unfair competition, as The Local DK reports: "Danish unions have said that a cabin crew member for Ryanair earns less than half that for local low-cost rival Cimber which still has to pay Denmark’s high taxes."
Re: Ryanair in 2015
Nothing prevents cimber to operate in the same way as FR does, which would be a favor to their staff as their take home pay would raise significantly. Because let's be clear about this: its GROSS pay. Forcing an airline to comply with a country legislation is about as ridiculous as you can go. There is no other business more international than aviation. Lets not forget that FR complies with every european legistlation applicable and on its own is responsible for millions of euro's of income for about every european country with their business.
Allowing another airline's Union to interfere with a competitor, THAT's unfair. Or are we going to allow SN's unions to stage strikes at JAF as well? After all JAF staff is also not unionised and works at less favorable conditions than SN's

Re: Ryanair in 2015
aYou see the unions in a too narrow area. It are not the unions of one competitor but those of the sector. Like most transport companies have unions but they resort under the umbrella of ACV/transcom or BtB - ABVV for instance. Under that umbrella you will find trucking and bussing companies, airport handlers, feuling companies, etc.
In this case it could make operating a flight quite adventurous.

Re: Ryanair in 2015
That still doesnt make a difference flightlover. I have always negociated my conditions directly with my employer and I have never had issues. Im very much against unions and I would rather drop dead than join a union
Re: Ryanair in 2015
They may not. Or their face a legal verdict against them, just like you did:sean1982 wrote:Nothing prevents cimber to operate in the same way as FR does

Funny statement from the world champion in grabbing direct and indirect subsidies from local/regional authorities.sean1982 wrote:Lets not forget that FR complies with every european legistlation applicable and on its own is responsible for millions of euro's of income for about every european country with their business.
Re: Ryanair in 2015
You mean like SN is doing in belgium too? Question: if you would personally have the right to get some sort of compensation from the government for something that you do? Would you NOT take it out of principle?
Do you not take your holiday pay out of principle? Or your 13th month? Are the people who do bad? Smaller scale .. Same thing
Is anyone forcing these regional governments to give their money to FR? No, they are investing in what they believe will bring them the biggest return

And this is Hertz' view on the facts:Boeing767copilot wrote:Ryanair to take legal action against Hertz as it ends car deal

Hertz Confirms Ending Its Partnership With Ryanair And Reassures Customers - Existing bookings will be fully honored and any future bookings can be made directly at Hertz, Thrifty and Firefly websites
The Hertz Corporation has said that despite lengthy discussions regarding a contractual dispute it regrets that it had to end its car hire agreement with Ryanair. Hertz reassures customers that existing bookings will be fully honored and that future bookings can be made directly at the Hertz, Thrifty and Firefly websites. Michel Taride, Group President of Hertz International, commented: "We have enjoyed many years of a successful relationship with Ryanair, but unfortunately we were not able to reach agreement with the airline over a significant contractual dispute in spite of considerable effort. The majority of Ryanair passengers who need car hire from the Hertz brands in July and August are already booked and confirmed. Any customer who wishes to book car rental and enjoy great service at competitive rates can make arrangements directly with us. Customers can also modify existing bookings on the Ryanair website. Hertz deeply values all of its partnerships, some which have been going for more than 20 years. We strongly believe in mutually beneficial partnerships and would never take lightly the decision to end a key relationship. We are confident in our legal position and intend to pursue this matter vigorously through the courts."

Hertz indeed has cancelled the contract because Ryanair no longer respects the contractual exclusivity by accepting bookings via GDS'es who do not have exclusivity with Hertz.
Translated: Hertz took the decision after endless negociations with Ryanair about the fact that the airline has broken the contractual agreements.

Ryanair chief operating officer David O'Brien said, "We will strengthen our presence in Israel as time goes by. Eilat is a very unique tourist destination like Morocco and the Canary Islands and we are certain that we will fill the planes."
O'Brien also spoke about the sensitive security situation in the region, "There are security risks everywhere and we are aware of those in Israel. Four million tourists visit Israel each year and I don't see any problems."
Israel's ministry of Tourism pushed for Ryanair to fly to Israel and in an exceptional step is paying a €45 subsidy for each tourist that airlines fly to Eilat.

Ovda airport (VDA) is some 40 km north of Eilat.

40km from the real Eilat airport? I through they changed of strategy? Going to major airport but finally they choose an airport lost in the desert...
Will the airport be named "Ovda Eilat North Airport"?

Yes they did. Main airports for business, secondary airports for tourism. Win-wincrew1990 wrote:40km from the real Eilat airport? I through they changed of strategy? Going to major airport but finally they choose an airport lost in the desert...

Re: Ryanair in 2015
Eilat Airport, ETH-LLET, has a runway length of only 1900m and an LDA on RWY 03 limited to 1600m.
I think nowadays only domestic flights use ETH.
International flights use OVDA Air Force Base instead with runways of 3000m.
The new airport is being built closer to Eilat city. Not sure when it is due to open though.
