Re: Trivia : Miscellaneous news
Excellent topic, this "trivia'". It's a good place to share this rather strange web page from someone who wants to warn the world against chemtrails (not be confused with contrails, says the author). Hallelujah!

Regional RTV NH (Noord-Holland - the province from Amsterdam) went to AMS to see if today's stormy weather in the Netherlands was causing any problems at Schiphol. The camera crew even registered a go-around from an Emirates A380:

The Airline Photographer who never flew :

Read more :Nearly every day, you can find me near one of the runways photographing planes. I’m not interested in listing and checking off aircraft types and registration numbers. I want to make the most beautiful and creative photo possible. My collection, which I have built up over the past eight years, amounts to nearly 20,000 images.
I’m one of those people who can recognize an Embraer at 10,000 metres with half a glance. I capture every door, every button, and every scuff. But if you ask me what a commercial airliner looks like on the inside, I shrug my shoulders. I’ve actually never flown

Dominican Republic officials say they have arrested a woman who was carrying more than $70,000 in her stomach and $69,000 hidden inside her suitcase. The spokesman for the National Drug Control Agency says the money in the woman's stomach was divided up among 16 capsules and the cash is likely tied to drug trafficking. Spokesman Dario Medrano said Friday that the 40-year-old woman was arrested at the airport in the popular tourist district of Punta Cana after arriving on a flight from Brussels. Her name has not been released. Dominican authorities say this is the first time they have arrested someone who was smuggling money in their stomach.

I can somehow understand how you can physically manage to swallow a few capsules with cocaïne, but 70,000 dollars? Whenever you see this amount of cash money in films, it looks like quite a voluminous quantity of bills. Why not just use Western Union?

Austrian just received a new Q400. It was christened "Innsbruck" and painted in Star Alliance colours. The first commercial flight on 1 November will be ZRH-LUG on behalf of SWISS.

The Dutch press reports that KLM/AF will present terrible quarterly results on Wednesday.
The AF strike has costed the group more then 500.000.000 €
It seems that KLM is very unhappy with AF (an understatement indeed).

"Duits passagiersvliegtuig opgeschrikt door rukwinden"
Nothing out of the ordinary for FNC, but still remarkable how pilots have to be continuously on the alert to make corrections.

BBC : "A Flybe pilot was removed from a plane and arrested on suspicion of being over the drink-drive limit just before he was due to fly. The pilot was due to fly from Newquay Airport in Cornwall to London Gatwick on Wednesday morning before he was removed for a breath test".

The surrealistic text posted on the web page of the airport of Ouagadougou on the first day of the "transition" in Burkina Faso:
Today, the site is back to normal (and also the SN flights). The SN flight coming from Dakar (SN515) is mentioned as 2J515 (Air Burkina), meaning SN has traffic rights between Dakar and Ouagadougou !

In 1989 the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) established the Aviation Security (AVSEC) Mechanism which has fostered the establishment of training facilities in this field of activity world-wide. Since then, regional training centres have been established in Brussels, Naïrobi, Dakar, Quito, Amman, Penang, Trinidad, Moscow, Kyiv, Casablanca, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Kunming, Buenos Aires and Auckland. Close cooperation between all existing regional and sub-regional centres is a must in order to achieve consistent results in an endeavour to ensure ever higher standards in aviation security.
EASTI was inaugurated on 19 November 1997 as the European ICAO Training centre by Dr. Assad Kotaite, President of the ICAO - Council, the Belgian Minister of Transport and the President of ECAC. During its 12 years of existence, EASTI catered for a wide range of ICAO courses and ECAC workshops, 155 in total. Since 2005 EASTI equally closely cooperates with the European Commission (DGTREN), which is a member of its Board together with ICAO and ECAC. The Director of EASTI is Frank Durinckx. The Institute is located in Haren, close to Brussels National Airport (3 km) and in the immediate vicinity of EUROCONTROL and NATO Headquarters.

The Dutch company vlucht-vertraagd.be specializes in obtaining compensation for flights much delayed. Last year, more than a thousand Belgians have used it to claim compensation of up to 600 euros. A quarter of the amount received will be for the company itself.
"When passengers affected write a letter of complaint to their airline , they get back a sort of threatening letter with all kinds of legal terms . The vast majority of the passengers give the already there. Also a complaint with the Federal Public Service Mobility often does not help. We are often a last resort ', say manager Tom Van Bokhoven .
"The airlines do indeed everything to escape that compensation , they do this mainly by stretching the term "force majeure" as much as possible.

It now appears that the site of the airport of Ouagadougou is not an official site (there is none). Like the sites of the airports of Abidjan, Dakar, Lomé, Bamako, Cotonou, Bissau, Niamey, they all belong to a French citizen living in the South of France, but they use local people for the contents. They are thus commercial enterprises which live from advertising.sn26567 wrote:The surrealistic text posted on the web page of the airport of Ouagadougou on the first day of the "transition" in Burkina Faso ...
The local airport authorities don't have the money to set up an official site, and these "fakes" give enough reliable information. But sometimes an editor can make his feelings known, like happened at Ouagadougou during the recent destitution of the President.
