Farewell : Last flight of SN RJ85 !

Post by cathay belgium »

Hi,

Seems a busy week for farewell news...
After the MD11 ...

Our national pride will say farewell to the smallest jumbolino in the fleet OO-DJP.

If nothing happens, the last flight of the Brussels Airlines, ARJ85 will be this friday to Firenze !

A last moment to spot the little fellow !

After this only 12 AVRO 100 remains in the fleet...

Heureusement, le ridicule ne tue pas. Sinon SN aurait été mort depuis longtemps.
I's a good thing that ridicule does not kill anyone, otherwise SN would have been dead since long ago.

Extremely expensive daytrips are typicall for non-LCC's as they want to exploit the business pax booking a daytrip, there will be few actually booking these, but a few tickets with this price can make the difference. LCC's think otherwise, they rather want to sell as many tickets as possible and therefore do offer cheap one-ways and same day return trips.

Doesn't matter who is right and who isn't, not the subject of this topic, just saying it's not typical SN, it's 'full service' (though that's more like 'hybrid' in Europe now) against LCC.

Many great memories on the RJ85's! I especially remember a round trip to Berlin Tempelhof. The RJ was parked inside the hanger! And because my girlfriend and I were travelling Business on my miles, we deplaned as the first pax in an empty silent hangar... The closest I ever got to flying in a private jet!!! ;-)

Cheers,

Stij

So I guess its take off to BMA at 17:05 will be the last opportunity for spotters to catch it in daylight for commercial operations.

The last commercial flight of OO-DJP was Milano Malpensa to Zaventem.

Hi Airazurxtror,

I believe the last flight will have been MXP - BRU... or am I wrong?

Stij

Unfortunately the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 didn't exist yet 20 years ago! ;-) I'm sorry, just kidding you.

I remember they were ordered in Sabena's Godfroid period and that the choice was between these and the Fokker 100 and 70.

If I remember well
- BAE gave them a VERY good discount back then.
- Fuel was very cheap back than
- SN's network included LCY, THF and FLR. (Fokkers were not allowed to land at THF)
- They're more quiet than the Fokkers.
- The RJ's design was more recent than the Fokker's

So maybe they're no longer the right fit, but maybe they were when they were ordered 20 years ago.

And frankly, I always enjoyed flying them!

Cheers,

Stij

My partner is very sad to see them go. He calls them 'Sad Chickens', but sure loves flying them. If SN would fly to TLL with these instead if OV with their CRJ, he'd switch in the blink of an eye.
They might be a bit old fashioned by now, but especially for someone tall they are more comfortable than other regional jets.

... with a good reason: it was their largest order even!

... only if the seats are fitted five abreast. With some airlines who put six seats abreast, they are a nightmare.
