Statement regarding flight 9W 121 from London Heathrow - Delhi

A high loader truck belonging to an external service provider suffered a minor fire prior to departure of flight 9W 121 from London Heathrow to Delhi. Contrary to media reports, no engine of the aircraft caught fire. As per procedure, all preflight activities were temporarily aborted and the fire was promptly extinguished by the authorities. Since the truck was in close proximity to our aircraft, on completion of formalities, the aircraft was inspected and released for departure. There were 155 guests and crew on board the flight.

At Jet Airways, safety of guests, crew and aircraft is of paramount importance and the airline regrets any inconvenience caused to its guests.

Load seems fairly low for such a big plane on what you'd think is a key route during a good period?
Or isn't it high season on Indian routes right now?

Surprised to hear that based on the picture.

From your pics, it's clear that the fire didn't affect the 777 in a serioàus way and that the aircraft could take off after inspection.

It's not conceivable for me that the aircraft would be allowed to depart after being subjected to the high temperatures of the gases that were rising from the truck.

Aluminium and their alloys quickly loose their tensile strength when heated, plus that section is always under load.

What temperature would you see in the smoke rising from such a fire? 600-800°C?
Enough for the aluminium to loose 90% of its tensile strength.

Aluminium conducts heat very well, so that the heat can transfer very easily from the skin onto the longerons and frames.

Normally, you would strip the paint off the aluminium and NDT it with Eddy current.
It takes more than 2 hours to fill the paperwork alone, another 3 hours minimum to gain access and do a thorough and good inspection.

Unless the aircraft was on the ground for a longer period, that little a delay is not possible.

We'll apparently it is, because it seems the plane got approved to fly out soon after?
