Malaysia Airlines Seeks Return Of Domestic Operations

Post by Concorde777steward »

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) wants to take back the the business of flying domestic routes from the Government because of the potential to make a profit from the operations, said managing director Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Dahalan.

"The outlook is very good, specially for the routed in the Peninsula," he said at a media briefing in Subang yesterday.

"We can undertake the profits and losses, the financial operations of the dometic segment," he added.

The move comes 2 years after Government-Owned "PENERBANGAN MALASYIA BERHAD" took over MAS's assets and domestic operations to end 5 years of losses at that carrier.

MAS currently continues to offer domestic flights on the Government's behalf, paying the revenue to the state and getting reimbursed for costs.

Fuaad said MAS planned to replace the aircraft within a year and was in talks with aircraft manufacturers including Montreal-based Bombardier and Brazil's Embraer.

The national carrier will replace its Fokker 50 turboprop aircraft to upgrade its fleet and reducing operating costs.

The routes that the Fokker 50 currently fly in East Malaysia are unprofitable, according to Fuaad.

**Somebody was asking that which carrier is currently operating with LEASED aircrafts only. Well my answer will be MALAYSIA AIRLINES. MAS currently has 5 Twin-Otter, 10 Fokker 50, 39 B737-400, 5 A330-200,
12 A330-300, 15 B777-200ER and 17 B747-400. All these (103 aircrafts in total) are dry leased from a completely different company called "Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad".

**Malaysia Airlines managing director also indicated that they will not give up or co-operate with another carrier such as Air Asia on their domestic flights.

**I hope MAS will replace their B737-400 with B737-800, Fokker 50 with Embraer 170, A330-200/300 with B7E7 and introduce in flight entertainment on domestic flights, increase the food portions on both domestic and international flights. What do u think ?

**MAS also expected to receive their first A380 in early 2007 and it will fly to MAS most profitable destination in Europe (London-Heathrow). It may fly to AMS too.
