Bid on Brussels International Airport
Moderator: Latest news team
The first news that appeared on Luchtzak yesterday afternoon has been completed today with a long explanation from Bloomberg: https://www.aviation24.be/article6440.html
I think that BIAC is in good hands now. Let's hope that Macquarie will develop it nicely, especially with intercontinental flights.

I'm shure they will be good for the airport. I have heard this morning on the news that they plan on making Brussels a more important airport and to expand. It is a pitty they come to late. They could have maybe saved DHL and try to keep them in Brussels. It will be hard for them to fill the gap that DHL will leave.
Also I hope they will make the airport cheaper for airlines to operate from. Brussels is one of the most expensive airports in Europe. If they want more companies to come to Brussels they will have to reduce the cost of operating from Brussels.
I cross my fingers and hope they will indeed like they say make Brussels an important airport again.

It seems the Skippies already made their homework: (see the picture)
Construction:
green: The airport village (business center)
red: Brucargo west
blue: Technical/support area
more parkinglots
more shops
traffic:
opportunity to attract long haul (especially Asia)and low cost carriers, opportunity for SN to expand, impact of SN joining OneWorld: boost carrier traffic and candidate for secondary hub for the alliance.
remember: these are only opportunities
Oh; don't forget the new mascot: http://www.uwasa.fi/~atn/travel/oz/skippy.jpg (thanks BobCleas for the idea)

In the presentation of Macquarie, the fees of BRU are compared to a number of other airports in the region. It seems that BRU isn't that expensive actually. Of course there will be many airports that are still cheaper, but since BRU has a large O&D, business traffic, they can ask higher fees, and airlines will pay them. It's not because 1 (or maybe 2) LCC's complain (as Easyjet does) that the fees are too high, that this is true. Many airlines still seem to think that it is low enough to come to BRU.any ideas why BRU and Belgian airspace are so expensive?
About the expensive belgian airspace, i have no idea. Maybe because belgian skies are so congested that they can ask much money and still have a reasonable traffic load After all, belgian skies are amongst the most congested, and guiding this traffic costs money...
Just my 2 cents,
Pieter

Hello folks
Greaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!!
New hope for BRU, sounds like it's a far dream, but i reaaaaaly
hope it is even a bit like that, if they even want to set the docks
filled with several 744's , T7's and more cool stuff as 330's and
340's,...and who knows, within several years....380's...but that's
all maybe a little too much to begin, but tumbsup for them.
Best regards: Yannick
