5th 737-400 for TUI ???

Post by Andries »

As reported in the news section :

"As of 2 July 2004, TUI Airlines Belgium takes a fifth Boeing 737-400 in use. By adding this fifth plane, the European fleet will be complete.

TUI Airlines Belgium will also recruit 50 extra persons to bring the total employees to 285. (e-mail to jobs@tui.be)

In the fall, the carrier will start long haul flights."

Didn't TUI have 3 737-400's ? OO-TUA, OO-TUB en OO-TUI ???
The article says that it will be the fifth for TUI ??? but where's the fourth ?

And then it says : 'by adding this fifth plane ... ' If they are adding a plane, it should be there sixth, not ? 3x734 and 2x738 + the new 734 ? or is my mind not up to date ???

I thought they currently had 2 B737-400 and 2 B737-800 operating in their colors...
They also use 3 Futura B737-400 and 1 Islandsflug B767-300...

I'm also confused about the number of employees they claim, as press releases for their Take Off party on March 18, already claimed 309 new jobs created for TUB...
Now it would be down to 235 + 50 new ones???

Are all those new jobs real contracts or just seasonal?

Somehow it sounds like not everything is nice and bright in the world of the baby-blue carrier...

As far as I know TUI operates the following planes:

3x B737-400: OO-TUA, OO-TUB, OO-TUI
2x B737-800: OO-VAC, OO-VAS
1x B763: leased from Icelandair

If they add one additional B737-400 it should be the sixth B737 in their fleet and the fourth B734.
Strange starneg, They seem tp have ghost planes in their fleet

So far there are 2x B737-4 and 2x B737-8 in the fleet.
OO-TUB doesn't exist and could be the fifth airplane from July 2 on.
So the the article should read as "TUI takes a fifth B737 in use....".

Thanks to our spotter database administrator for putting the record straight. I knew TUI had only 2 734s, but I didn't know their registration.

The aircraft that was going to be OO-TUB was not taken up, and is now flying for Blue Panorama.

Will another c/n be assigned for OO-TUB, or is the aircraft going to be turned back soon from Blue Panorama?

Nope, it is well and truly Islandsflug with a mix of Icelandic, English (?) and Belgian cabin crew...
Some friends of mine just came back from Jamaica with them and didn't words hard enough to express their feelings about the flight...
Apparently they didn't even have blankets and pillows on board for the return (night) flight and no orange juice was left to be served with breakfast...
Ouch...
