Thursday 16 april : Emirates is said to lean towards the RR Trent 900 instead of the GP7200 for the 50 A380 it ordered in november 2013.
Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC said Friday it has won its largest ever order from Emirates Airline worth $9.2 billion to power Airbus A380 superjumbos.

A Qantas Airways Airbus A380 (VH-OQF) is expected to be out of service for around six weeks after it was damaged while under maintenance in Sydney. The airline would not disclose the extent of the damage from the incident. Qantas will substitute Boeing 747-400s on some of its services from Sydney and Melbourne to Los Angeles.

According to Leeham News, Malaysia Airlines want to get rid of all of their six Airbus A380 aircraft. It is offering them for sale or for lease, along with its two Boeing 747-400Fs and four Airbus A330-200Fs and four Boeing 777-200ERs.

Before sending an A380 to Brussels in September, Emirates will bring one to Prague on July 1st. Another airport that certainly doesn't have the right equipment to handle it correctly.

Always problems with India? Lufthansa, which intended to start A380 flights to Mumbai, changed its mind and will now fly the A380 to Hong Kong instead...

Re: Airbus A380 news
What happens to the early production A380s as they head towards the end of their leases?
Kiran Rao, head of strategy at Airbus's commercial plane making division, told the Wall Street Journal that a likely destination for second hand superjumbos is airlines looking to fly high volume of passengers in a low-cost setup.
For these airlines, Airbus would pack the double-decker with 600-650 seats in a two-class setup, with an ideal flying distance of 6-8 hours. In more extreme situations, the company can even set the plane up to handle as many as 800 passengers.
Rao believes there is room in the market for 40-50 of these second-hand A380s.
Thus, Airbus may be able to accomplish two objectives with this strategy — find homes for used A380s and expand the plane's customer base.
But as airlines seek to make their fleets smaller, more flexible, and more fuel efficient, do 600-plus seats jumbo's make business sense?

Re: Trivia 2015 (miscellaneous news)
United Airlines is reported to be in talks with Airbus about obtaining the Airbus A380, more precise, the 2 birds that were going to Skymark in Japan.
Think the Le Bourget show could become very interesting if this becomes reality...

(Basically Airbus is going to "give" them to UA to be used on a trial basis, which is a good way to break into the US market and get rid of those idle birds.) Wouldn't be surprised if they are mostly paid for anyway with the advances that Skymark paid (and maybe some fines).

Re: Airbus A380 news
Airbus is in talks with several airlines over a stretched version of its A380, with new engines and about 50 more seats, as it tries to boost sales. The new aircraft would be dubbed A380-900 and is different from a previous proposal which sought to put 100 additional seats.

Re: Airbus A380 news
Vietnam drops A380 order
The Vietnamese government has dropped all plans to confirm options on the four Airbus A380s it signed up for in 2009.
Vietnam Airlines also has reportedly scaled down its original plan to boost fleet size to 150 aircraft over the next five years, and will instead grow to just over 120 aircraft.
The airline—which is scheduled to take delivery of eight Boeing 787-9s and 10 Airbus A350 XWBs up to 2019—said that "the world economic situation is more difficult," and that "fierce competition in the aviation market place" were both added reasons for opting out of the A380 deal.
The carrier has just under 90 working aircraft at present.
This latest cancellation comes as an added blow for Airbus's A380 program, which has seen several cancellations in Asia, including a significant six-aircraft order from bankrupt low cost carrier (LCC) Skymark Airlines.

Airbus will delay the delivery of the first A380 on order by Transaero (Russia), due to the effects from low demand in Russian market.

In other A380 news, Airbus sees a second-hand market developing for used A380s coming off their initial leases. The A380s retired by premium carriers may find a new life flying six- to eight-hour routes for low-cost Asian airlines.
