According to ch-aviation, ACMI specialist Hi Fly intends to add A380 aircraft to its fleet. Starting with the A380 just abandoned by SIA?

The A380's could be from SQ but isn't EK also dumping some A380's in the near future?

Fact is that there's virtually no market for second hand A380's (despite what Airbus might announce from time to time) and chances are that Hi Fly are getting these A380's for peanuts, maybe slightly above scrap value. Leasing or selling them to a ACMI operator can generate some value since I doubt that there's a market for second-hand spare parts from a scrapped A380.

In that case SN might be flying them from time to time. And in a way it would be a good thing. Imagine an A330 braking down for 2 days and a replacement ACMI rented aircraft takes over 12h to be available. With some extra delay for the first impacted flight they can take all pax from the next flight also, just loosing out on the cargo capacity in that case.

But than again, they are not flying to A380 friendly airports.

Airbus says Chinese airlines could need between 60 and 100 A380s over the next five or so years as passenger traffic grows, amid rising questions over future demand for the superjumbo.

Air France no longer wants to order A380s, as the carrier aims to redevelop the aircraft currently in circulation, notably by replacing seats.

The FAA issued an emergency airworthiness directive (AD) prompted by the recent an uncontained engine failure that occurred on Air France Airbus A380 powered by Engine Alliance (EA) GP7270 turbofan engines.

The FAA reported in their AD that the failure occurred on an Engine Alliance GP7270 turbofan engine that had 3,527 cycles since new, which is a relatively high cycle engine.

The AD requires a one-time visual inspection of the GP7200 series engine fan hub, with the compliance time based on the number of accumulated flight cycles, and removal of the fan hub if damage or defects are found that are outside of serviceable limits. These interim actions are intended to prevent failure of the fan hub, which could lead to an uncontained release of the fan hub, damage to the engine, and damage to the aeroplane.

The GP7200 series engine is in use by A380-861 aircraft of Air France, Etihad Airways, Korean Air, and Qatar Airways, as well as 90 of the 142 A380s ordered by Emirates.

Airbus says it continues to invest in improving the operational reliability of the A380, although it is too early to start working on an NEO version of the aircraft, despite insistence from Emirates (UAE).

Airbus is working with Emirates on a follow-up A380 deal. The two sides aim to come to terms in time for the Dubai Air Show, which starts 12 November 2017.

Airbus is near a deal to sell 30 A380s to Emirates. The announcement should be made at the opening of the Dubai Air Show next Sunday.

Airbus hasn't sold any A380 since March 2015.

Leasing firm Dr. Peters (Germany) to park the first A380 returned from a 10-year lease with Singapore Airlines at Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrenees airport, minus the Trent 900 engines, which will be leased out via Rolls-Royce (UK).

Three additional SIA A380s are set to return to Dr. Peters in January, April and June 2018, as the owner seeks a new operator for the planes.

Not quite healthy for a manufacturer if virtually 50% of all orders are from one single customer... Wonder if these will be the "Plus" models.

Not healthy for that customer either. There is not one other type that can replace the A380 like for like, except for a new A380. So in the end Emirates has no choice but ordering new ones when they do not want to shrink their offer, lower service levels or increase operational costs.

Could be British Airways a potential customer for the A380 to replace the 747 fleet?
With the capacity problem at Heathrow they have the same problem than Emirates!

Maybe they waited so long hoping the third runway would open in the mean time to chose the right plane.

The 380 is very expensive to operate, if the second hand ones come very cheap it might be an option.
New ones are out of the question, as it is almost impossible to make money with them.
If Emirates doesn’t place a new order the A380 line will be closed down in the near future.

The A380’s are a niche within the BA fleet and will stay a niche i’d say. The B747 has a far better cargo carrying capability than the A380 which is often weight limited. Plan is to replace the B747 with A350-1000 and B787-10.

I wouldn't be so negative. For now there is no option to replace the A380 like for like in number of seats. If they increase the payload capabilities by updating wings and engines they set themselves even further apart from any competition.

The A380 is a nice product and the answer to congested airports (or slot restricted as showcased by AMS these days) to increase pax capacity. Airports can't expand for ever, the public will not let them. With the economic downturn it just came 15 years to early. Though by now the B747 might have also grown its capabilities quite substantially at the rate boeing made new derived (improved) models.

And about the economic side of things, it's always a balance between income and expenses. Yes, it is expensive to operate, but it also has a larger revenue potential than any other aircraft, be it in luxury or number of pax. For airbus it even makes sense to develop a next gen: the major expense of a white sheet design is done, so development is cheaper and the complete program cost might get a chance of being recouped.

That's crazy...Airbus always said that the A 380 was cheaper than the 747...
If he is really more expensive to operate (per seat)than a 748 this programme is dead from the beginning!
But why can Emirates make money with it?
Hasta la victoria siempre.
