New Schiphol lounge 1 is open

Post by Flying_Dutchman »

Schiphol has opened april 28, her new Lounge 1, in terminal 1. The Departure Lounge 1 was being expanded and renovated. The older lounge was one of the oldest sites at Schiphol Centrum and is part of the building that was taken into use as the first terminal at Schiphol Centrum in 1967.
Departure Lounge 1 is currently the waiting area beyond passport or ticket control for passengers to Schengen destinations. In 1967, around 1.5 million passengers departed from this area. Over the years more arrival, departure and waiting areas have been added to the airport, but the number of passengers using Departure Lounge 1 has only gone up; in 2002 over 8 million passengers departed from here).

The renewed Departure Lounge 1 will offer a wide range of shops, bars & restaurants to suit everybody's taste, and facilities and entertainment to allow passengers to spend their waiting time on something useful or pleasant. The architecture and interior of Departure Lounge 1 is very special. The shops and bars & restaurant are situated around a central square. The square makes it easy for passengers to quickly find every facility. Schiphol's version of the famous "Paleis voor Volksvlijt" is also situated on the square. Just like the original palace in Amsterdam, which was lost in the nineteen twenties, it is made from glass and steel. The 'Schiphol Palace' houses a Grand Café and a Mediterranean terrace.

Departure Lounge 1 also offers passengers the possibility to do some work while they are waiting in the Communications Centre or to play a game of roulette or black jack in the casino.
The casino in Departure Lounge 1 is going to be a full-blown casino with gaming tables and fruit machines, just like the casino on Holland Boulevard in the non-Schengen section of the airport.
