Alitalia MD-82 encounters severe damage in Trieste !!!

Post by Avro »

I just submitted the following as a news item:

While the MD-82 (I-DAWR) taxied on the apron in Trieste (Italy) it collided with a truck working on a construction site near the taxiway. The right wing has encountered severe damage and has nearly been cut into two pieces.
The aircraft will most probably be written off.

Here are 2 pics of the accident:

That one deffenetly needs a new wings.
You can find more then enough of them in the Desserts in the US so maybe the plane is lucky anough to be repaired.

And it's also missing the last bit of the fusalage.

Best Regards,

Yes parts can be found easily, but as far as I know, Alitalia is phasing out all its MD-82. Those will be replaced with A320 family planes.

Alitalia should be happy that there wasn't a spark or another source of fire near the aircraft after the incident, otherwise, with the big fuel spill, there may haver fallen more injured or even casualties!!! :?

Maybe the driver wasn't in his truck at that time. You know when there are constructions, there are usually many trucks near to the construction !!!

My opinion :
The aircraft will most likely be written off. Alitalia won't do the troubles of repairing an aircraft that's due to be phased out later on ... They will phase out this aircraft and keep another MD-80 a little longer ...

I-DAWR is one of the older MD82's in the AZ fleet (almost 20 years old).

About AZ replacing the MD82's: no replacement order has been announced yet!
