The European Parliament approved a new rule that will "name and shame" foreign (non-EU) airlines that fail to meet international safety standards.
The rule will become required procedure in all EU states within 2 years of its adoption or sooner.
Any EU state that bans an airline notifies the EC, which can extend the ban throughout the EU.
The rule originated from the Birgenair B757 crash at the Dominican Republic but was pushed by the January Flash Air B733 crash at Egypt.
Meanwhile, Luxor Air (Egypt) remains banned from French airspace (see topic) and Air Memhis (Egypt) remains banned from Belgian Airspace following the 2 April incident at Cairo in which the right main gear tyres of its B707 SU-AVZ burst and the a/c veered off the runway. The a/c was bound for Ostend.
