Near-miss between SWISS A320 and ULM at Brussels Airport
Hi all,
received this information from AN124 whilst we where chatting in the chatbox, he had his scanner tuned in on Brussels Approach ATC this afternoon, there was a near-miss between a SWISS Airbus A320 and a ULM on the approach at Brussels Airport.
Does anyone of you has extra information on this?
greetings,
Bart

OMG, wow, this must have been an exciting moment for those pilots

I think the pilot from the ULM was also shocked after the incident.
But I'm still wondering what that thing was doing out there.
As far as I know they are not allowed at all in the BRU area.
Problem is that not all these ULM are picked up by radar so knowone could have seen this coming except the pilot from the ULM himself.
Best Regards,
Yvo

Thanks for this information. Must have been euh... 'special' to hear this while listening to ATC.
Also, this morning, an SN BA RJ started its takeoff roll from 25R while a Saudi MD-11F was only 5 nm away. It only received its clearance when it was almost flying over Steenokkerzeel. Quite a tight one I'd say, well for BRU anyway Good job ATC (meant) !!

While talking about ATC ...
Saturday night I also heard a strange situation at the BRU Approach frequency (118.25). Suddenly a lot of very strange noises appeared, and moments later a guy was saying:"Ik zal u niet langer lastigvallen" (means "I will not longer disturb you").
Was some stupid guy talking in his scanner

Was the ULM based in Schaffen?
I see quite often ULMs in my area, usually coming from Temploux (Namur). The vertical distance with aeroplanes taking off from or landing at BRU is enormous...

it has been made official now: read it in the newspaper and on vrtnieuws.net.
The aircraft was an Arbus (not Saab 2000 as reported earlier). Things happened at an altitude of 800m (2600ft) and not at 6000ft as reported earlier.

or this one if you have Skyslet instead of Teleslet: http://vrtnieuws.streampower.be/nieuwsn ... index.html
And if you don't read Dutch:
Wednesday 14/04/04 - In the airspace above Walloon Brabant an Airbus of Swiss International Airlines almost collided with ULM-plane. The incident occurred Monday, ut was confirmed only today.
Fortunately the Airbus landed safely.
Swiss flight LX 780 was starting its landing manoeuvres Monday afternoon when suddenly the ULM appeared and passed at only 20 metres above the Airbus. This happened at 800 metre altitude in an area prohibited for sport flights.
ULM means Ultra Light Motorized. ULM-planes are small aircraft that cannot be spotted by a radar. It is still unknown what happened after the incident. Possibly the ULM could have had problems with turbulences.
If the pilot is ever found, he faces a steep penalty and the removal of his flying licence.
