Air Wales is to stop its CWL-BRU !

Airline scraps Brussels route

Air Wales is to scrap its scheduled flights between Cardiff and Brussels.
The service - which was only introduced in January this year - will be terminated on 14 April.

When it was launched, Air Wales claimed that the service would run twice a day, direct from Cardiff International Airport, and that it would also be available to passengers from Swansea.
It has blamed insufficient demand for the decision.
The airline said it was concentrating its resources on its new domestic services.

Air Wales formed an association with low-cost airline bmibaby last month to operate routes from Cardiff to Cork and to Glasgow Prestwick.
Air Wales chairman Roy Thomas said: "Unfortunately, despite our very best efforts, it seems that there just aren't enough people who want to fly regularly between Wales and Brussels to make this service work.

"Nobody wanted this route to work more than I did, but unfortunately we had to take the responsible decision to stop the service as it simply wasn't viable."

He said that the association with bmibaby "has already proved extraordinarily successful" and said that other domestic routes were also proving popular, with passenger numbers growing by the day.
The airline said it was now looking at three prospective new routes within the UK and hoped to make an announcement in the summer.

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Assembly Government said the news was "disappointing".
"This is a commercial decision for the company, but the Welsh Assembly Government will be working with Cardiff International Airport to see if the link can be re-established with another operator," she said.

Welsh MEP Glenys Kinnock also regretted the decision.
She said: "The link between Wales and Brussels is extremely important, both politically and economically. I hope that another carrier comes forward to consider offering a competitive daily service to Brussels."

Not really a surprise. And a wise decision to stop before the losses are too high.
