I also thought the same because it could be.

There was even a touch and go at Rome (FCO) before returning to Naples.

OO-SFZ departed BRU as BEL9951 about 15 minutes ago (1300z), to ???
Per FR24, it seems to be levelling of at FL100, overhead NIK, on course to COA.
EDIT: test flight, I guess. It went back to BRU and is landing on 25L at 1340Z.

Cathay Pacific A330 B-LAH (future OO-SFB) is flying only short stretches around HKG as CX6661 in recent weeks. Acceptance tests for SN? (Thanks to Eddy L. for the tip)
B-LAH on 11 Jan 2018

B-LAH (OO-SFB) might well be the first A330-300 that SN will get from Cathay Pacific. But it is known that SN will operate A330 aircraft for Eurowings from March. Thus it is likely that this aircraft will first fly for EW before returning to SN.

Any input from insiders?

B-LAH will go indeed go first to EW before flying for SN.

Painted in SN colours or EW colours?

If they paint it in EW colours then the first step is set to abandon the SN brand since I doubt they'll repaint it after a few? months.

Or just plain white with eurocrap titles on the fuselage?

Ok, it would be quite bland but I would fit great with the company it would be temporarily flying for...

Exactly... Eurowings doesn't recognize SN and won't give them any credit... they just use them because it will save them money and allow them to make money... when those aircraft and crews could have been opening new much needed routes for SN out of BRU...

EW should be thankful that SN is willing to help them, otherwise they couldn't fill the gap at DUS.

Why????
EW could have secured ACMI services with a dozen other operators.
The A340s are comming from the LH group and the crews are new recruits.
SN should be grateful that EW give them the oportunity to make some money!

The biggest part of the money made from these lines will go to EW, should be better for SN to start some destinations at BRU.

But the profit on the EW contract is guaranteed and without any risk.
Opening new routes do require a big investment and could generate a big loss.

I would think it's a win-win, no?
Brussels Airlines gets a fully finished business project handed to them on a silver platter for which they bear no commercial risk and are likely to make a (small) profit from, directly thanks to the fixed revenues and known costs, but certainly indirectly by widening their operational base and thus spreading out their overhead costs further.
Meanwhile, Eurowings/Lufthansa is guaranteed to have found itself a reliable and long term partner in house so to say, one which has excellent operational knowledge to handle a job which seems not that easy to do due to the required flexibility of the expansion plans.
