THY has decided to lease 2 A321-200 aircraft, one from PAFCO 2916, Inc. and the other from PAFCO 2919, Inc.for the duration of 6 years.

Turkish Airlines Increases Dakar Service from late-May 2014

Turkish Airlines from 27MAY14 is increasing service on to Dakar, where it plans to operate 6 weekly service instead of 4. Boeing 737-900ER aircraft will operate Istanbul – Nouakchott – Dakar – Istanbul service. However, TK currently does not have traffic rights for Nouakchott on 2 of 6 weekly flights.

THY has launched a new advertising campaign in Turkey claiming if you dream you can succeed. The commercial is about some village kids from Igdir (Eastern Turkey) province dreaming of having a THY aircraft landing in their village runway (!)..

THY is starting Istanbul Ataturk- Asmara (Eritrea) flights after 18.August. The 3 weekly flights will be via Taif (Saudi Arabia).

Meanwhile THY has also started Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen-Sarajevo (Bosnia) flights recently.

THY has started their 4 weekly SAW-Moscow VKO flights on 1.July.2014. These flights will be until 24.September.2014.

Turkish Airlines to Split Tallinn / Vilnius Operations from late-Oct 2014
Turkish Airlines from 26OCT14 is increasing capacity on to Tallinn and Vilnius, as the Star Alliance member will split the existing triangle operations. TK plans to operate Istanbul Ataturk – Tallinn and Istanbul Ataturk – Vilnius route, 4 and 5 weekly each.

THY has announced that they are starting 5 weekly Istanbul Ataturk-San Francisco (USA) flights as of 13.April.2015.
These flights will be daily after 13.May.2015.

Turkish Airlines recorded 398 million TRY net profit in the second quarter and 172 million in first half of 2014.

Sales revenue increased by 37% in the first half reaching 11,3 billion TRY.

Turkish Airlines’ first half 2014 consolidated financial statements were reported to Borsa Istanbul. Compared to the same period of 2013, sales revenue increased by 37% (15% in USD terms) reaching 11,3 billion TRY. Turkish Airlines recorded 495 million TRY operating profit and 398 million TRY net profit in the second quarter of 2014, completing the first half year with 312 million TRY operating profit and 172 million TRY net profit.

During the first half of 2014, 26 million passengers were carried impliying a 17% increase in passenger traffic. Available seat kilometers (ASK) and revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) increased by 19%, resulting in a stable load factor of 79%. Number of international to international transfer passengers increased by 28% reaching a 44% share of international passengers.
As of today Turkish Airlines has scheduled flights to 45 domestic and 218 international destinations in 260 cities and 108 countries worldwide. Being one of the youngest in Europe Turkish Airlines fleet consists of 263 aircraft comprising of 200 narrow body, 54 wide body and 9 cargo aircraft.

Being awarded “The Best Airline in Europe” in 2014 for the fourth time in a row Turkish Airlines continues to increase its service quality and to sustain its solid financial state with a focus on profitable growth in order to become one of the leading five star global airlines in the world.

THY has made a statement saying that they intend to fly:

Istanbul Ataturk-Bari (Italy)
Istanbul Ataturk- Kherson (Ukraine)

based on availability of fleet and gaining the necessary permits.

I tool the Luxembourg-Istanboul flight last week for the first time ... Very good flight, brand new B737-800, comfort even better thanks to only 20 people on the plane .. The flight is now daily, but at check-inn they explained it will most pobably go back to 4X weekly, due to "not really being a stellar success" ... They must have more routes like that ...
