Bordeaux is setting up an LCC terminal, to open in may 2009.
These guys are smarter than BRU's, where the LCC terminal is like the famous "Arlésienne" : always coming, never arriving ...

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
There will be some competition at Charleroi next summer.
According to "Le Soir", yesterday page 21, the following destinations will be flown to by two carriers :
Tenerife : 3 weekly flights by Ryanair and 2 by Jetairfly.
Gran Canaria : 2 weekly flights each for Ryanair and Jetairfly.
Casablanca : 6 weekly flights by Ryanair and 7 by Air Arabia.
Tanger : 3 weekly flights each for Ryanair and Jetairfly
Murcie/Alicante : Ryanair 7 flights per week to Alicante, Jetairfly 3 per week to Murcie.
In 2009, CRL will have had not far short of 4 million passengers (+ 25 %)
In 2010 : space for 1500 more cars and 3 more gates in the terminal.

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
I may add some employment numbers:
2000 people work in CRL (that only direct I guess), 80% of them live in a circle of 30km around the airport.
Many of them have a low level of education.
It seems very good for this region that needed it a lot.

Only a pity that are mostly subsidised jobs, so how much would they bring to the local economy in comparison to the cost for the comunity?Acid-drop wrote:I may add some employment numbers:

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
Well, that's a old debate, but let's make it short :
such things happen in all country, managed by all kind of governement so I guess it's profitable for the community. (it happens probably right under your nose, you should check )

It seems that Ryanair is loosing its power at CRL. More airlines flying to CRL and the already excisting are increasing their number of flights. That's more healthy for CRL.
Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
I guess it was the main goal of the mgmt for years.
It's the biggest weakness of the airport (but in the same time, its biggest strenght for now)

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
How many A/C's based in CRL so far???
Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
It was risky business for JAF to compete against such a big player in CRL ... I'm not sure why they did that, OST and LGG was clever already. Driving one hour in Beglium is not exactly a big deal, is it ?
I wouldn't hold by breath for ryanair in LGG. From a political decision, pax go in CRL and cargo in LGG.
Ryanair is maybe interested by OST again.

I think that they said: "we go where our customers live" since that 1hr drive can be a nightmare for some people due to traffic jams.Acid-drop wrote:It was risky business for JAF to compete against such a big player in CRL ... Rynair is planning to move some aircraft from Shannan to airports in the Benelux.
I'm curious if CRL will get some plane(s).
