National carrier Austrian said Monday it has purchased nine Fokker-100 aircraft that were part of the American Airlines fleet and plans to acquire another six.
Austrian would not reveal the identity of the seller. The carrier, formerly known as Austrian Airlines, said the jets would help it expand services to central and eastern European markets.
Austrian said it also has ordered two A-319 Airbus jets which are about to be delivered. Four MD-87 aircraft will be removed from service, it said.
The American Airlines models have been equiped with 108 economy seats, where as the USAir machines where equiped with (i believe) a 88 economy seats and 12 premium class seats. Will Austrian re-seat these machines to match their Fokker 70 fleet?
That's indeed a very good news for the Fokker planes
I allready feared that they would all be stored somewhere, but know after Helvetic there is also Austrian who will make those birds (not all of course ) live some more time.
