Emirates Mega order expected at Dubai Airshow
Rumours say 100 A350's XWB might be ordered by EK next month at the Dubai Airshow.
Also B748i are being discussed...

Fly4hours, making the path to airline pilot affordable to all
Not new, but if Emirates have a timetable, the 787 delivery issue, which has to delay the 787-10 will hand the XWB-10 the order on a plate.
If that happens it may even kill off the 787-10, which lacks range.
The BA comments on noise and the 748I are not going to help its cause at Emirates either, particularly as again Clark wants more range.
For the available market it may not even be worth the R and D to meet the Emirates requests.
WE SHALL SEE!
Cheers
Achace
PS The A380 with GP7200 engines arrived here two hours ago. QUIET!!!!!
I live 800 metres from runway 24/06, and would have missed it if I had not been on the lookout.

Emirates has been giving ALOT comments on both 787-10 and the XWB and it seemed like they'll order both but in reality they'll just order one kind..
I still think they'll order 748Is, afterall if their A380s are going to be 600 seaters (with some of them potentially converted to the larger variant in the future), they have nothing between their 773ERs and the A380, and I don't know what routes they can deploy them on, but Emirates will surely find a route to use anything out there, so i think they will get it.. if it doesn't have enough range, i guess that might only limit them from flying from 'some' of their planned destinations, meaning (at most) a smaller order.

Boeing's 787 Is in Race for 100-Plane Emirates Order (Update1)A350XWB wrote:rumours on airliners forum not sérious ..FLY4HOURS.BE wrote:Rumours say 100 A350's XWB might be ordered by EK next month at the Dubai Airshow.

Boeing Co. still stands a chance of winning a 100-plane order for its delayed 787 Dreamliner from Middle Eastern airline Emirates, the carrier said.
Emirates is weighing the 787 against Airbus SAS's A350 even after Boeing postponed deliveries by six months, President Tim Clark said in an interview today. It may order as many as 100 of either model, worth about $16 billion at list prices, at the Dubai Air Show next month.
``All our studies were based on the fact that this airplane would be delayed into service,'' Clark said. ``But unlike the A380 delay, when we were at the front end of the order stream, this delay really has no bearing on us.'' [/i][/b]

That's just a price-dropping strategy
Emirates needs to replace A330 and B777's.
The B787 therefore is too small, certainly for Emirates that praises Business/First most of all.
I see them ordering the B747i for the same reason as Lufthansa, they can use them as cargo-conversions later.
At le Bourget EK said XWB: http://archive.gulfnews.com/business/Av ... 33398.html
They have always been considering the B787 as well, it just doesn't fit their profile and location.

I still think both have equal chance. The 787-10 capacity is ideal for them and if they do not intend to replace (which they don't need to) 773ERs, then they don't really need the XWB-1000. But of course the XWB has 3 different sizes to choose from, and while 787 will also have 3, 787-3/8 will most likely be out of it because that one is really too small for EK. Let's see, 50:50 imo.
