If a there was a 747 tanker full loaded and ready to go at BRU it could be anywhere in europe in about two hours or less and could carry up to seven times that of the largest operational waterbomber today. The cost to modify a 747 is considerably less than buying aircraft.

A 747 was modified by Evergreen Aviation several years ago for aerial fire fighting. The "Super Tanker" concept was intended to park modified 747's at strategic sites in the US and then fly large loads of fire fighting retardant to fires from these airports. The US Forest Service was to test the plane, but later decided not to contract for it due to the high cost per flight. This was probably a short-sighted decision, but necessary from budgetary constriants. See: http://cms.firehouse.com/web/online/New ... r/46$48127

I meant, if Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Greece are about to make a joint order, are these very planes to be "westenised" or not ?

Well yes, they'll have to be type-approved by each country, as I understand that is rather a matter of administration (and, thus, of AND money AND polite manners) than a technical problem. But your previous question was about the engines, not about the airframe? I still don't see why you consider the engine question so very important. Perhaps you mean some Russian engines are not up to western standards for emissions and/or noise?

Russia: 9

First deliveries sheduled for 2008 : 2 for Portugal

Further deliveries for Portugal, Italy, Greece and Indonesia from 2009 on.

Negotiations with France and there is a proposal to acquire a number of BE-200's by the Civil Protection Services of the European Community.
