So exit AVRO's and exit SN ! Downsize of SN !
I don't like to see Augsburgs,Cityline or other Embraers flying SN's destinations.
I prefer an embraer or whatever ( an AVRO ) in Brussels colors !!
If we give away small destinations to others what will rest ??
5/6 A330 for AFI and some A319 for Geneva,Berlin,Hamburg, and some others ???
Than I would even prefer some props or older AVRO's or a sukhoi superjet !!

Well, me too!
But I wouldn't be surprised if LH is anticipating on such a move.
Reform SN for Africa+select long haul destinations on A330, have them fly the bigger European and medium haul operations (TLV, Moscow,...) on a mixed A319/A320 fleet and leave the regional 50-seat flights to one of their excisting subsidiaries.
I am not saying LH is going down that path, but I wouldn't be surprised, neither...
I would exclude such a scenario. Reread the last lines of my 10:16 pm post. You have to see such things from an employer's point of view. I don't have any concrete figures, but neither LH nor its subsidiaires would be able to operate from BRU on a lower cost basis (wages) than b.air. So, LH can only hope it can keep wages and working conditions at the low b.air level when they take over the airline.
The real challenge will be to find the right mix of aircraft for the fleet renewal, which suits SN's needs.
Well, we’re drifting off-topic here, but here are my 2 cents: Personally I think the best option for the AVRO replacement will be an Embraer E170-E190 mix; they can be delivered in time when the AVRO’s will leave the fleet, as the leases of those will not be extended. The Bombardier CSeries might come too late and might also be a little too big yet.
I don’t see SN purchase <70 seaters; LH is getting rid of those as well at their subsidiaries. Nor do I see that SN will be reduced to operate the bigger European cities and leave the rest to 3th parties.
So to improve the loadfactor in Europe:
-more pax on board in the future as SN is expanding the AFI network and SN is now a Star Alliance member, which is e.g. resulting in new UA & AC flights etc.
-downsizing the capacity by getting the slightly smaller Embraer's (at least the E170's) compared to the AVRO’s

About the advantages of Star codeshares you can say SN must be happy with UA, US, CO, AC. Altough the CO, AC codeshares aren't mentionned (yet) in the new BRU timetable (the one you can download in pdf on the BRU website)but the UA and US codeshares on SN's destinations are all mentionned. And if that's all correct SN must be happy, both UA and US codeshare on all 18 AFI destinations. In total UA offers around 40 codeshares and US arround 50 (altough they mentionned something like 20 in their press release). And not only the US partners have a big ammount of codeshare flights, multiple destinations have extra codeshares (TAP, Blue1, spanair, bmi, Lufthansa... and even Swiss on Douala and Yaounde but no Nairobi).
Air Key West wrote:Do you mean SN and LX codeshare on Douala and Yaoundé ? Are you sure ?
If you are, is it like the codeshares to Africa between SN and LH ?
No I'm not sure as I found it in the new BRU summer timetable and you can never be sure of that. But in the new timetable the flights between BRU and Douala and Yaounde has codeshares of LH, LX, UA and US. Both are also LX destinations I think, but I wonder why they don't codeshare on Nairobi then.
It will indeed not be long before it will arrive. The registration OO-SSC (F-OHJX) was today registered by Brussels Airlines (where it was Sabena S.A. before). As it is painted and has been seen with engines in the past days, it will be flown to Brussels shortly.
OO-SSC is foreseen to start ops 16 April 2010, will arrive 14 April in BRU.
BCAA will make a visit to Shannon from 12 till 14 April, with the acceptance flight to BRU on the 14th. IF all goes well, ofcourse!!
For OO-SFV, still in Malaysia, almost in full colors.
For those interested, have a look at EI-DEY, and his previous reg ...
SN considers going after an A320, once OO-SSD has joined the fleet.
Long term, it would certainly make sense to have a mixed fleet of let's say 10 A319s and 5 A320s, so it is not improbable SN indeed won't wait till they've first added all 10 A319s before they take their first A320.
Operating already 6 A319s and with several 734s up for replacement, an A320 might indeed be better called for than yet another A319, next time.

Fingers crossed!
The A320's could be also ussable for routes like Moscow and Tel Aviv. I suppose Tel Aviv could use a larger aircraft but it would be a stupid idea to send a B733/4 to Tel Aviv. The comfort is to low for such a route. A A320 could solve that problem and they could also use them to popular EU destinations.
So I think it's a good idea, they don't have to wait to long for replacing the old 737's and some A320's would be welcome (A321 is still to big I suppose).

Or opening up some Northern-African destinations as well... I find Northern-Africa a gap in SN's network. Morocco is covered by their codesharepartner RAM, and Egypt by their alliance parnter Egyptair, but what about Algeria, Lybia and Tunesia? Or combine multiple weekly flights to Lebanon, Jordan an Syria?

Indeed North-Africa is a gap in SN's network. I think they don't fly to there because this is a market that is already good filled (Tunisair, Air Algerie, Afriqiyah but also Jetairlfy and Thomas Cook) and it is more a leissure market I think. But RAM has intentions to enter an alliance and I tought that would be Skyteam, so then they would stop codesharing and maybe SN will start operating Marocco theirself. Maybe also Tunis, Algiers, Tripoli... in the future, who knows...
