Last wednesday (Sept 8th) I was a passenger on flight EasyJet 7224 from Berlin Schönefeld to Liverpool's John Lennon Airport.
During or shortly after take-off we heard a loud noise from the right-hand engine of our Boeing 737-300 followed by strong vibrations. We were then told that we were indeed experiencing engine problems, probably due to bird strike and would have to return to Schönefeld.
We landed safely after some 15 minutes to be received by a full line-up of airport fire-fighters.
The aircraft was then inspected and the engine damage was confirmed in an announcement by our captain.
Up to this point the emergency had been handled very well and competently and the EasyJet crew has to be commended for this.
The passengers' ordeal really began after unboarding the aircraft when for hours on end no information was given. EasyJet ground staff were completely clueless as to when and if we could continue our journey.
In the end no replacement aircraft could be found and passengers were left stranded until noon the next day when the original aircraft had been fixed in the local Lufthansa facilities.
Yes, we were of course given a hotel but EasyJet's information policy during the whole situation was a complete disgrace!
