How to fly BRU<->RIX cheaply and conveniently?

Post by paladokus »

Hi!

I will soon need fly BRU<-> RIX quite regularly. I am looking for the best option for:
* 35 to 40 BRU<->RIX returns a year
* usually Saturday night stay in RIX
* usually able to plan ahead fairly well, but some flexibility (at least for some tickets) would be a nice bonus
* starting from +- January 2015
* hand luggage only
* ideally, billable through my small company
* compatible with a tight budget
* mostly for myself, sometimes also for my significant other or for my employee

I have the impression I am falling between the cracks: too small for corporate, no Brussels Airlines b.pass (not updated to include new own destination RIX?), no 69 EUR check'n go, contrary to the publicity on the home page.

Is there any better option than just buying regular tickets from the Bru Airlines website every time?

Kind regards,

paladokus

This is not my cup of tea, not by a long way. I am surprised none of the specialists around here have offered any answer yet, here goes for my 0,02 €:

Their predecessor SABENA would have looked down upon you, "kleine garnaal" (little shrimp, literally), but I do not know about current Brussels Airlines. If they have any beginning of commercial spirit they'll be happy to make you a personalised deal, but you might need to access them through a good travel agency if the old spirit is still prevalent on their front line contacts.

That said: isn't this service operated as a code share with a Latvian Airline? You could do worse things than to enquire there, startup companies in startup economies tend to try harder.

Finally, if all else fails, do no forget Ryanair operate from Charleroi to Kaunas - depending on where you are in BE, and what is available as surface transport from Kaunas to Riga, this could be a viable option.

Why fly charleroi-kaunas when you can fly charleroi-riga?
Return prices in january are around 90€ return with an additional 50€ for business plus (so offering you flexibility when needed). Flights are 4 days per week.

Have you tried with airBaltic? I'm not sure if they have check&go-like fares, though.

Alternatively, check SAS Credits: www.flysas.be/sascredits. You earn credits which you can use for free flights. Simultaneously you earn frequent flyer points.

Similar set-up is www.partnerplusbenefit.com: Lufthansa Group and partners.

Good luck!

Air Baltic is owned by the Latvian Governement.. would be my first bet.
Brussels airlines is an option.. those check 'n go tariffs do exist
Ryanair is an option from CRL
And Wizzair is an option from EIN

Really depends where your BE base is.

@sean: I was not aware of the CRL-Riga service, you may have heard commercial air transport is not my first cup of tea in aviation... I am glad to stand corrected.
