PUJ-BRU with Brittania 21-22/04/04

Post by down2earth1 »

Hi guys,

i'm back from the dominican republic!
i was hoping for a A330 from LTU but it was a 767 from brittania :(

the flight was rather poor...

after a 2 hours delay we took off to Puerta Plata (PUP i guess)
the flight would take 35 minutes, we started descending and we came in very bad weather; dark clouds, luchtzakken (airbags?), heavy rain...
the pilot tried to land the first time, but overflew the runway and gave full throttle, the weather was very bad he said on the speakers...
then we did circles over the sea for 45 minutes and he tried to land again, butt overflew it again. It was not possible to land due to the very bad weather, so we where diverted, back to PUJ (punta cana)
We where not the only plane, when we landed in PUJ, a corsair B747 landed also, nice plane!
There they told us we had to stay a day longer, we where placed in a hotel for 1 night.
The next day we departed again, with one hour delay.. the pilot appologied for the day before, he said it was a tornado we where in and there was one meter of water on the runway :?
So far so good :D

Service was very poor @ the brittania 767, one language stewards (english) no pillows, no blankets available.
the movie we saw was "the italian job" english version without subtitles, no headphones available so we where not able to sleep cause of the movie noise in hte plane
Food was quite tasty but little...

Sobelair was 100x times better service, food, no delays.......
please com back sobelair :D !!!!!!!!!!!
Next time i travel it will be with an other company, no TUI/brittania anymore for me

grtzzzzzzzz

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I guess your flight was PUJ-POP-BRU and that the 35 minutes you mentioned was for the first leg.

My own experience to the Dominican Republic was with CityBird. Also 1000 times better than what you just described.

Why don't you send a complaint to the Tour Operator (TUI) and ask for a financial compensation?

British charter carriers are hardly ever on time - we see some superb delays when we check the MAN arrivals in the height of the summer season.

Britannia are no different!

PUJ-BRU with Brittania 21-22/04/04

Seems to be bad news for Jetair-travellers to the caraïben. I booked myself a flight to Cancun (Mex) on 21 Mai 04 with VIP-Selection (also Tui). Flew last year to Punta Cana with Sobelair. Was perfect. Nice food, good service, no big delays.

Questions: 767 Sobelair flights with VIP-Selection provided about 50 seats in the front part of the plane with more leg space and upgraded service (Confort Class). What was the seating arrangements on the Brittania 767?

Hot news: just received an email from my travel agent, Jetair starts flying with Icelandair starting may 2004. They will use an 767 with 260 seats including 28 in Confort Class. Anybody with flight experience on this airliner?

Does anyone knows when TUI Airlines Belgium's 767 will start to operate and how their Confort Class seatings will look like? Since Confortclass seating could only be confirmed for my flight up, this means perhaps that Jetair will fly with their own 767 starting June when I have my return flight?
I particularly appreciate the good hot news that Britannia will be dumped for Icelandair.

I have flight experience with Icelandair!! I used to fly with them alot, and liked flying with them until my flight from KEF-GLA in 1993, when they put us on a useless aircraft and I said I would never fly with them again, even though it meant I would never go back to Iceland.

Well, the bloody thing broke down just as the engines were powered up for take off. We were towed back to the terminal and had to sit in the aircraft whilst it was fiddled with by mechanics. The crew looked as though they were about to burst into tears - not very good to inspire confidence in the passengers!

When the thing eventually took off, we all thought we would not make it back to Glasgow. When we eventually did land, all the fire engines were waiting for us and escorted us from the runway. Not a very nice experience and one I don't want to repeat!

It's indeed nice to see that Britannia will be dumped, but I never saw a B767 of Icelandair  Could it be a B757 ?????

Thanks for the report...

As we can read in your report, BY is not the best alternative to replace SLR...
