EDI - BRU with Bmi

Postby Depretair » 29 Jul 2010, 22:09

Hello,

I had the pleasure today to fly British Midland between Edinbourg and Brussels on flight BD 1631.
I must admit that I was quiet surprised by the quality of the flight.
The plane, an Embraer 145 registered G-RJXA, left EDI on time 16h15 LT, we took off a few minutes later from RWY 06 wich gave us a nice view on the city.
The flight was not full @ all, like 40/50 % of occupation.
After 15/20 min of flight we received a choice of sandwiches (ham/cheese or a tuna wrap), and drinks (cold and warm), all of those things were free of charge.

The plane was clean, cabin crew was friendly and efficient, food and drinks ok.

We landed softly on the 25L of BRU 1h10 min after T/O.

It was a really nice flight and I'm quite surprised to see that the second airline of UK offer more service than some national airlines.

I will not hesitate to fly with them again.

Glad you enjoyed your experience on a ERJ45. Every time I took that type of plane I had the feeling of being in a cramped space, but maybe bmi did something special to make you feel at ease.

I will not forget my last flight on that route 10 years ago, in a Sabena A321 (that aircraft plays in a different league!): that was a superb flight...

Hi Depretair,

Nice to see other people are pleased with BMI!

I also flew BMI's ERJ145 (LHR-BRU, G-RJXF last december), and although the feeling of space is naturally not the same as other jets, I didn't find it cramped either and was also very pleased by the quality of the flight.

It was my third flight on BMI (all between BRU and LHR) and will too not hesitate to fly with them. However, I don't remember having meals/drinks free of charge.

We fly with BMI - sometimes EMA-BRU but in September we are doing LBA-BRU (first time from LBA). I like the professionalism of the staff and the fun of the little ERJs, but I cannot praise the "food" they serve. On each occasion the sandwich I have had on BMI has been foul. Rye bread with "cheese" and sweet mincemeat masquerading as "Christmas chutney" and on the last flight "beef salad bloomer" with soggy, uncooked bread so I ended up with dough all stuck to my hands.

That is the only thing wrong with BMI, otherwise they are great.

Was BMI not famous for the hot pannini ?
I enjoyed their flights to East Midlands on the "needle" , sharp as a knife.
Despite the cramped interior, once you are seated you have more legg room than on a long haul flight.

The flights where I had the foul "food" were in 2007 and 2008. The last time I had a hot panini was on a BA domestic (MAN-LHR) in 2006, that was very nice. Maybe some of the longer BMI flights have a panini?

The ERJ is a cute little plane - more legroom (and more rows) than you would expect on something small. The Fokker 50 seems like a widebody in comparison though.
