MD-11 seating question

Post by Erna »

Hello,

I will be flying to Bangkok with Finair in july :D

Normally (when flying a Boeing 747) I love to sit in the very last row... but now, with an engine in the tail of the MD-11, I was wondering if it will be not too noisy....

Anyone any ideas?
Or perhaps a suggestion as to what the best seating places are in this type of aircraft?

Thanks,

Erna

Secure an exit row seat or a bulkhead, those have the best legroom... ;)

Enjoy your flight!

The best seats are usually in the front, whatever the make of the plane. And as Frederic says, next to an emergency exit.

Erna, if it is possible try to get in the front since the MD-11 is indeed pretty noisy in the back. Not only because the engine in the tail but it is always noisier since you are behind the engines. I don't know the seating with Finnair but with KLM best seats are row 10, this is the first row with a lot off space where people with babies have priority. Anyway, enjoy the wonderfull take-off with a MD-11, you can not go any steeper ;)

You lucky person. I've checked the finnair website and I found this:

http://www.finnair.fi/filecontent/com/f ... onomy.html

Check out the Panorama 360 and then econemy class. What a room!! 8O Especially row 27. It looks to me very comfortable. Have a nice flight! :)

Hello Erna,
First notice this Finnair flies 15 minutes faster in Winter then in Summer. But you will have the European airline that flies the shortest route to BKK and therefor the shortest time:
Finnair flies Helsinki-Vantaa (HEL), Helsinki, Finland Terminal 2 to Bangkok Int'l (BKK), Bangkok, Thailand Terminal 2
AY 91 HEL 23:35 BKK 13:40+1 day Non-stop M11 10h05min
Monday, March 29, 2004 - October 29, 2004 Monday Wednesday Friday
AY 97 HEL 23:35 BKK 13:40+1 day Non-stop M11 10h05min
Sunday, March 28, 2004 - October 30, 2004 Tuesday Thursday Saturday Sunday

For you only the flight number may vary between 91 and 97, flight is the same. (I hope you like blue, that is anyway nicer than the green they had in earlier days!) You will have about 7882km - 4256nm and in July, assuming the winds are ok, your flight will be closer to 9h iso 10h (My estimated flighttime will be 09h26 See note*)

You will be leaving from Vantaa a little bit before midnight and quickly you will be in the next day. In this nightflight you will be overflying LED and then there is really not much to see over (dark) Russia, anyway they close the windows, enjoy the movies. (If you're flying on a moonlit night -full moon-, you might have a glimps of the Caspian sea or the Aral sea. After a mere 5 hours you will see the sun rise, that's why I would advise you choose a window seat at the leftside of the aircraft (and left is also the best position to witness the approach and landing @ Don Muang - as you will be on the inside turn over Kanckanaburi when coming out of the (rainy*) clouds and an other nice left turn at low altitude, North of Bangkok. You will see Don Muang from your seat when taxiing to the gate in T2.

As you saw in the Finnair Panorama, the seat near the camera position is nice, but that's on the right side overwing. If I had to choose I would take a window seat in the fourth or fifth row on the left side in the first eco cabine. (This gives you also the opportunity to disembark quite fast, so you can get to immigration quick. Then you don't have to queue too long there, as 14h00 will be the time that lots of asian flights come in @ BKK)
Enjoy your stay.

And if you happen to go North to Chiang Mai, let me know...

AY's DC10's... and MD11's... were the usual and B757 the exception, V-Bird
