Just returned from a short trip to La Paz via Arica & Iquique, Chile. Arranging a trip to Rio de Janeiro (Lan Chile) for next month.

Most airports in South America have a collection of in or out of service equipment parked along the ramp or near delapidated hangers. Great sights - sometimes sad - and difficult, most of the time to get close to.

The word "retard" could also be a comment from 1 crew member to the other about his or her mental capacity.

Avro, and all: The LanChile "Express" flights to and from Arica & Iquique - and especially the return from La Paz - back thru Arica and Iquique are probably one of the most ho-hum routings in earth. The 35 minute flight from La Paz to Arica beats the 9 hour bus ride (I've taken it!) but other than a glimpse of a couple of extinct volcanoes, the only interesting aspect of the trip is the VERY LONG rollout to V1 which is attributed to the airfield's extreme altitude above MSL. As always - the Lan Chile crews and FA's continue to be first rate. And, the snacks/meals are a cut above the norm when compared to 99% of other carriers on short haul trips.

Cheers!

Yes, i live in Kota Kinabalu (East Malaysia). Formerly known as North Borneo. May be u r right, but it is the second largest city in Malaysia follow by Johor Bahru (near SIN) & Penang. we also have many lovely beaches here. The city also located near to the big ocean. The costs of living same as KUL which mean it is one of the highest in Malaysia, so as JHB < ( because too many Singaporeans drive into JHB to buy all the cheap foods, shirts etc.) May be the costs of living r very high among Malaysians, but for Europeans, Americans, Aussies, specially Japanese, it is very very very very LOW.

MAS has direct flights from TPE (daily), KIX (2x), NRT (2x), BPN (3x), BWN (2x), CEB (2x), CAN (3x), SIN (3x), MNL (3x), MDC (3x), ICN (1x), XMN (2x), KHH (daily).

Australian Airlines (AO) also has direct flight from SYD (2x), SIN (2x), CNS (2x).

Royal Brunei Airlines (BI) : BWN (11x)

TransAsia irways : regular charter flights from TPE.

Far Eastern Air Transport : regular charter flights from TPE.

Kota Kinabalu is very popular among the Japanese & recently Aussie. Kota Kinabalu also well known with the highest mountain in Southeast Asia (Mount Kinabalu) & the world biggest flower (Rafflesia).

A friend of mine told me that MAS plan to launch a 3 x weekly direct flight to LHR soon but they still have the slot problem in LHR. So, we'll see.

You're right. BKI may be little known in Europe, but the fact that it is served by 777s and 330s means that it has a large customer base.

Nice to have you on board, Will.

Hi firrech,

I did get your email but I found that a response on this forum could get more targets.

No I've not flown before with AirAsia but I "tracked" them for about 2 months before I booked my flights two weeks before. All I could see on airport websites and on various fora was positive and almost everytime on time or ahead of schedule.

Since you'll fly with them before me, your comments will be very welcome

Pay attention that you're only allowed to take 15 kg without surcharge (a lot lesser than your MH flight) The solution I've always used is to leave a part of my luggage at the hotel in BKK.)

Have a nice journey

Hello sumnuek,

Thank you very much for answer about AIR ASIA.
I booked too an other AIR ASIA flight at an incredible rate : 25 RM (about 5.5 euros) taxes included for JOHORE BAHRU to Kuala Lumpur.

I read also maximum 15 kg but was you under or more than 15 kg? is it very strict? What's about the extracharge rate?

Thank you.
Best regards
