Brussels Airlines SEPT '16 figures: 8,2% more passengers.
According to:
https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/brussel ... september/
Brussels Airlines posted a 8,2% passenger growth vs. the same month last year, over September 2016.
This looks like their biggest monthly growth rate since the attacks of March, bringing them close to their pre-terror double digit monthly growth path of the past 2 year.
Definitely very positive operational results given the wider economic environment in Europe at present, not to mention the tarnished image of Belgium abroad!
No idea how the airport as a whole performed, but given the press release explicitly mention they perform well in a decreasing market, it seems Brussels Airlines continue to capture ever more market share in Brussels and likely also on the Belgian market even: the fact others are facing an increasingly uphill battle could explain why so many direct competitors of theirs are quickly losing all appetite to continue to fly in direct competition to them from BRU.

Same story as every month. Load factor stays equal, so the only reason for the extra pax is the extra space in the aircraft. If they do not manage to get their load factors up this is not a good story. In a low yield strategy, a high loadfactor is of the upmost importance.
Re: Brussels Airlines SEPT '16 figures: 8,2% more passengers.
The load factor is also lower than European legacy carriers like BA, KL, AF and IB. And the lowest among all LH-group carriers.
So improving the LF seems important regardless of the low-cost strategy.

no sweat...they are getting there.Jetter wrote:The load factor is also lower than European legacy carriers like BA, KL, AF and IB. And the lowest among all LH-group carriers.

And true the load factor is the lowest in the LH group but on the other hand the pax increase is the highest in the LH group, so ... The emphasis does not always have to be on the negative, don't you think?

About LF, it stays maybe more or less the same. But the A/C are bigger as well. So I guess the LF will go up as well. Just at a later stage. Maybe the signal of the Belgian customers will come, that they want to fly a Belgian home carrier !

SN : Congratulations to recover as well from 22 march attacks.
June + 3.8%, July + 5.2%, August + 4.8% , September + 8.2%.
Increase mostly due to traffic transfer at BRU hub, knowing that traffic for Belgium has not yet fully recovered the pace of before the attacks.
Obviously, the hub is the future of Brussels Airlines.

This is important and goes against the point to point model of Eurowings. I hope that Carsten Spohr is intelligent enough to understand that.travellover wrote:Increase mostly due to traffic transfer at BRU hub, knowing that traffic for Belgium has not yet fully recovered the pace of before the attacks.

Or if he isn't, hopefully these growing numbers will show that he is wrong with his idea and that BRU is indeed the hub for SNsn26567 wrote:This is important and goes against the point to point model of Eurowings. Despite a slightly lower l/f, the RSK has grown slightly more than the ASK, meaning the increase in pax number (in percents) was mainly on long/haul . I wouldn't be surprised if long/haul l/f did actually increase, despite (or thanks to? ) the new Toronto destination, which would be a very nice achievement.
