Brussels Airlines August '16 figures: + 4,6% PAX growth

Post by brusselsairlinesfan »

Brussels Airlines registers 4.6% passenger growth in August!

The number of passengers on the European network grew by 3.4%, while the African flights welcomed 3.5% more passengers. On the North American network an increase of 36.2% was registered, mainly due to the new Toronto route.

Moreover, in addition to its scheduled flight activity, Brussels Airlines operated many holiday and group flights for tour operators and these ones not included in the figures.

So once again regarding the Brussels march attacks and the international - specifically european context - SN did it well!

Congrats!!!

That 4.6% figure for August is funny, because that's also exactly the decrease in the number of passengers registered at Brussels Airport. That means the SN did 9.2% better than BRU (see https://www.aviation24.be/airports/brussel ... ugust-4-6/ ).

Again, month after month, SN is increasing its dominance at its home airport.

The detailed figures for Brussels Airport are also interesting to analyse, because the decrease in the number of departing and arriving passengers is even higher than 4.6%, and is compensated by the increase in the number of transfer passengers. And I guess that most transfer passengers are travelling SN (or at least Star Alliance).

Thank you both for keeping track of this recurring topic.

Although the growth is modest going by the usual double digit figures they've posted last year (and the year before), it does indeed look much more impressive if compared against the wider situation at BRU: a divergence of close to 10% with BRU as a whole (and thus their main competitors) is indeed quite an achievement.

I think their growing market share as well as their increasingly important contribution to the overall results of BRU will definitely reinforce the mutual understanding and reliance on each other which has grown over the past year or so further, as already evidenced by the ever lower prominence our national airport gives to other airlines.

To put the SN performance in perspective: both FRA airport and LH recorded a decrease of 5% in the number of pax in August...

And good to know : SN has completely recovered vs 2015 in number of passengers since march attacks ! ;)

In your opinion, will these trends continue over the next months? I hope that BRU will also recover as soon as possible...
