Due to wind restrictions and operational ATC reasons, Brussels Airport is currently operating in single runway operations on runway 01.

Use of single RWY 01 may continue in coming days, leading to possible delays for arrivals as well as departures.

No, it is not. It is a long story, but I'll keep it short: since the last update of the AIP (7/3 if I'm not mistaken) there are new SIDs for RWY 07R/L (aka 'Leuven rechtdoor'). However, not all controllers are yet properly trained for this. Normally this should take another week. So, in the mean time, we cannot use 07L/R for departures. I can't say I'm proud of my company having to write this, but facts are facts...

@ Homo Aeroportus: the wind at surface would indeed at first glance be fine for RWY 25R/L, but at 1000' there was a wind of 030 at 25kts... Also, the prediction of our meteo was that it would only turn north-west for bout an hour, before returning to 030 - 040 degrees...

Not properly trained yet? No offence, but I cannot imagine a new procedure to be that hard to adapt to :s

The new SIDs from rwy 07R are the result of the 'airport agreement'. The political representatives have instructed the belgian CAA to see to the implementation.
To achieve this, the belgian CAA has issued an instruction to Belgocontrol to establish a procedure taking into account the new SIDs.
So far so good, I understand that Belgocontrol management has to follow the instructions from the CAA, but...

The time frame for implementation of this new procedure was quite ambitious. It does not seem to allow enough time to test and evaluate the new procedure adequately. Let alone establish adequate training for controllers (TWR, APP and ACC).
In the end, not all ATCOs were trained in time so the Belgian Supervisory Authority could not sign off on the new procedure.
Since extending the existing procedure was not possible : no departures from 07L/R allowed until training is completed.

You could ask yourself why the implementation was not delayed?

Seems that the 25th of May, 2014 is an important deadline for the political representatives...

@Tomskii
The new procedure is quite different from what existed and involves traffic streams in and out of EBBR, EBCI and EBLG. Add in some military airspace that is not always available and things can get quite complicated...

As from 1600 LT:

Arrival: 07L
Departures: 07R
.

Looks like President Obama will be given a nice view over Brussels when approaching BRU ;)
When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.

Wasn't he supposed to land on 01, for security reasons. There is not such a huge difference in the orientation of 07L and 01, and unless the wind is very strong, everything remains possible...

Due to strong North winds, all flights currently operate on RWY 01, probably till late evening. This may cause delays for arriving flights.

Wind does not look so strong. Only a 10 knot crosswind for rwy 25...

It is not so much the crosswind that dictates a runway change in this case but the tailwind component. The METAR gives 340 at 10 kts. This is 90° crosswind but the wind is variable between 310 and 020. Once you get past 340, there is a tailwind factor to consider. Tower always considers the worst scenario, in this case 020 at 10kts.

Due to the wind (20023G37 TEMPO 19023G40) non-standard configuration landing and take-off runway 19 today.

For those who are planning a trip to EBBR tomorrow, there is a possibility that rwy07L will be in use for arrivals instead of rwy 01 due to works at B1/E7.
