Brussels 21/07/2018 - Belgian National Day
Does anyone know about flight schedules of overflights during the National Day celebrations on next Saturday?
Just some minutes ago, several aircraft overflew the Schuman area, flying at a low altitude. I might have missed some jets (F-16?) - but I heard them -, saw a small trainer and a pair of prop airplanes, three or four helicopters of different sizes plus a low pass by the Air Force A321. All were coming from WNW and flying OSO. It was pretty impressive. Unfortunately I had no camera with me in the office...

The planes/helicopters will overflow the Royal Palace around 16h20.
List of participants:
7 Alpha-jet
4 F-16 2 Wing
4 F-16 10 Wing
4 Marchetti
4 Agusta
1 Sea King – 1 NH90 TTH – 1 NH90 NFH – 1 Alouette III
1 Xingu (FR)
3 C-130
1 Embraer + 1 Falcon
1 A321
I don't know exactly from where and to where they'll come from/will go before and after the passage at the Royal Palace. Someone maybe has a more detailed list?
I also saw 1 Embraer, 1 C-130 and the A321 while practicing. Unfortunately I didn't had my tele-lens with me:

Re: Brussels 21/07/2018 - Belgian National Day
Previous years it was all announced per NOTAM?
Re: Brussels 21/07/2018 - Belgian National Day
Sounds obvious for doing that every year
I remember a small Open Door in 2009 at EBBE: http://www.sbap.be/events/2009/ebbeod20 ... od2009.htm
But I don't take it that's every year. Then all a/c departed there (and most if not all also returned there (mind you, they all landed save, if they did anywhere else )
My question (after all) is did the BAF (in the passed years) formate the airdefilé from different places or do they all leave from one base (let's say like the NATO-choppers did recently)? Gives you an idea id it's worthwhile for going for some t/o or rtb, or not......
Thanks for more details/links

I seem to remember the formation was built as it flew, planes joining from their base as the formation passed near. A couple of years ago it was published here in detail. The circuit would be something like Florennes-Beauvechain -Kleine Brogel-somewhere in the west to pick up the helicopters - Brussels.

From your experience from previous years: which are good spots to take pictures of the aircraft flying over Brussels?

Not an easy question to answer, there's many factors (equipment? skill? ambitions?) and even if you tell me what they are for you I couldn't judge them, being a poor photographer with only middle-of-the-road equipment. Photographing flying aircraft from the ground is tricky business anyway; quailty and quantity of sunlight an important factor.
But since you ask for my experience: last year I was - rather accidentally* - walking the Berlaymont square when they came along. I think I reported here, at the time. They were flying West to East in two columns, one over the Wetstraat which was glorious to see, the other over the Belliardstraat or perhaps even more southerly, I could only hear those. Perhaps possibly misschien peut-être vielleicht the Cinquantenaire park would offer better opportunities, I cannot be sure. You certainly want to be high, as high as possible. If you have the right connections, you might be able to gain access to a high level in one of the office buildings in the quarter?

Thanks - I use think of myself as being some kind of planespotter, so I usually use a slightly bigger equipment than mobile phone camera and am vaguely accustomed to the concept of sunlight and shadows.
But the information that they were flying along the Wetstraat (or to the south of it) is indeed a useful information, thanks for it! (Cinquantanaire seems to be doubtful because maybe talvez kan wees магадгүй the direction of sunlight would be a wee bit coming from the wrong direction).

Unfortunately, that was a sunshine-free performance... the formations were impressive though, especially the F-16s displaying a huge "5" to salute the 5th anniversary of the King.

The coverage of the parade by VRT was catastrophic: they managed to completely miss the helicopters! (And, out of topic, for the ground parade: going constantly back and forth between the groups caused utter confusion).
