Not seeing any departure pictures, I assume departure (a bit earlier) was from RWY 07L.Black Labrador wrote:NATO LX-N90454 Boeing E-3A Sentry landed on runway 01 at 10.43am :
Really beautiful pictures. Very nicely edited, Black Labrador!
I just browsed through your flickr album and got to see a great variety of recent and not so recent pictures. I really love those dog pictures! The quality of all the pictures is consistently high. I like the strong depth of field on many of your pictures. But I was missing some structure in the album, in being able to select a specific location or year. BRU is mixed with AMS, CDG and other airports ... and with the dogs.
Edit: Ignore, I just figured out that everything is actually organised in albums. https://www.flickr.com/photos/black_labrador13/sets/
I would be curious to know a bit about your photo editing procedure (Lightroom?). Apart from cropping, leveling, sharpening and noise reduction, what other parameters do you usually modify in your photo editor? It looks like you do have some very good lenses, but I can't imagine that these pictures come out of the camera just like that.
Re: BRU 13/09/2014
A few from today, testing out some new equipment in quite crappy weather.

Hello,
@ André : thanks a lot !
@ Established02 :
Thanks a lot for your comments !
Your are right, departure of LX-N90454 was from runway 07L but a just before 10am. I don't remember exactly because I was driving to 01 at this time.
About my pictures gallery, I created some albums to sort by location or by aircraft type ... but an additional classification by year should be an added value.
I am currently using mainly a 6,5 years old Nikon D300 with a 8,5 years old Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lense (+ converter x1.4 if required) and a more recent Nikon 16-85 VR f3.5-5.6. For processing, I am still using mainly Photoshop CS and sometimes Nikon Capture. For a few years most of the pictures are in RAW format, which is recommanded for using photo editor. In Photoshop, I used the parameters you mentioned above, but never the auto levels indeed, only manual fine tuning. I use the following adjustments : Levels, Color Balance (never for red/green), Hue/Saturation, Shadow/Highlight, Exposure. Also the following tools if needed : Close Stamp Tool, Gradient Tool, Dodge Tool. Of course also the Sharpen but not every time. For example, no sharpen used for the LX-N90454 pics. I hope it could help !
Best regards
Alain

Thanks for the feedback, Alain.Black Labrador wrote:Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lense (+ converter x1.4 if required)
As far as I can see on some pictures where you expectedly used this converter, the quality is still quite / very good. Personally I have had a 2x Canon convertor (on a Canon 70-200) for some years now, but I hardly ever use it. I wish I had never bought it. Pictures come out way too soft and I can not sufficiently compensate this problem in Lightroom.
"no sharpen used for the LX-N90454 pics"
I'm surprised to hear that you did not have to add any sharpness. Have you tweaked the 'picture style' settings in your camera (for Canon: sharpness / contrast / saturation / color) or they're all set on default? With Canon I have always been using the standard value of 3 for sharpness, but maybe I should increase it.
As from what (higher) aperture do you get that subtle star effect on the aircraft lights?

Re: BRU 13/09/2014
Hello Established02,
Yesterday, I wrote 10.43 as landing time by mistake ... it was 11.43 indeed.
I have no experience with 2x convertor, but only with 1.4x and I am happy with the results. Of couse, the processing is always required for pictures taken with my 70-200 lense with or without convertor but it is not always the case with my 16-85 lense.
About camera setting, most of them are default ones. For sharpness, I use position 4 (range 0-9) instead of standard position 3.
For the pictures of the E-3A, the light was no perfect , so I selected speed 1/250s, iso200 and an exposure correction of + 0.3 and get an aperture of f10.
Best regards
Alain

Re: BRU 13/09/2014
Thanks, Black Labrador. I'll give it a try with position 4 as well (my Canon has range 0-7 only).
Hi Kriva, just a few small observations.
I notice that in your cropping you like to keep some extra empty space in the direction of the movement. That actually fits a valid advise that you can sometimes find in photography manuals, but perhaps it's a bit uncommon in aviation photography. But luckily we don't necessarily have to follow the very restrictive editing rules of airliners.net & co.
I also notice some vignetting on the WX and the TK pictures. I guess this is due to a lens-related issue, rather than because of some post processing.

Re: BRU 13/09/2014
To be honest, it's really the other way around. (It is post processing and not really the lens, just because that's the way I like it.)
I have to say, I've had quite a few clashes with the moderators at airliners.net. That's why there are no more pictures of mine to be found over there. But that's a topic for another discussion.
If you take a look in Flickr, you'll see I'm not exactly working with a low-end setup, so the vignetting is purely a post processing function.
Thanks for the remarks, though
