Flight plan filed for JAF's OO-JAA (times Z):

Code: Select all

JAF999 EBBR 0800 KMSP 1625
Not sure this will come through, as OO-JAA is also scheduled to fly the Sal-Boa Vista flight...

Flew over Brussels about 20 minutes ago (a few minutes past 11 PM): a large 4 engine jet, flying quite low and making a lot of noise. Clearly took off from runway 25R.

In both passenger and cargo departures on the Brussels Airport website, nothing that really corresponds to this. There has been a Saudi Arabian cargo (SVA920) that took off at 10.59 PM - seems to correspond to what I've seen, but I'm not sure if that time is correct as this plane is already located above south-western Germany according to Flighradar24 etc. Furthermore, it is an MD-11F, while I'm sure that I've seen a 4 engine bird.

Anyone got an idea what it was?

Noisy and 4 engines, makes me thing about a 707. Perhaps a NATO 707 then.
Those don't show up on the website, but they do occasionally visit BRU.

The noise might also be due to the low altitude of the plane.

A 707, maybe, but it seemed to be a widebody plane to me. Guess we'll never know...

By the way, does such an occasional visitor show up on radar sites such as Flightradar24?

It could also be a USAF C17. They occasionally show up at BRU.

Older planes (B707&DC8) or most militaries like C17 don't show up on internet radars.
You can sort it out via an acar list like one to be found on this link
Checking the time, at 22:59:33 HZ-ANB lifted off and believe me a departing MD11 makes a hell of a noice.

Absolutely, but an MD-11 still isn't a 4 engine jet. That's one thing I'm quite sure about. ;)

A C17: think it must have been something like that. Clearly widebody, 4 engines and making a lot of noise. I also remember that the aircraft didn't seem to be extremely long, so it could very well have been a C17.

Not for SN, usually it's a backup for the CS-TMT (which is now flying for SN, by coincidence).

Bit further listed @ 23:08:01 an AN124 VDA7062 RA-82045 departed. Mistery solved :!:
