Guess we now know what will replace the A321 currently leased by the BAF from HiFly.
About a year ago it was said that Belgium would get 3 tankers (Airbus A330MRTT) convertible from tanker to cargo, pax... but at the end of the year they had vanished from the defence plan and it seemed over and out. Today it was announced that the final agreement was reached for the investments in the Belgian Army. As known already Belgium is getting 34 planes to replace the F-16's, a bunch of brand new ships (2 frigates and 6, larger, minesweepers), 6 (still unarmed) drones and the surprise 1 tanker plane...
Since most of the European countries have opted to buy the A330MRTT I'm guessing that Belgium will also buy the A330MRTT rather than it's American competitor the Boeing KC-46.
Wonder in which time span we can expect this plane. Probably sooner than the F-16 replacements?
Belgium is getting one tanker...

Why not using some of the seven A400M as a tanker.

Re: Belgium is getting 1 tanker...
Will it be based in Eindhoven together with the Dutch A330MRTT's?
Re: Belgium is getting 1 tanker...
Apparently Belgium joins the multinational tanker project (together with the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Norway). So If I understand correctly Belgium will not get its "own" A330MRTT tanker plane, but will 'buy' flight hours to use the multinational fleet.
I don't think there will be Dutch A330MRTT's. They will all be "multinational". I guess they'll just paint 'NATO' on the fuselage.AIRMARSHAL wrote: ↑07 Sep 2016, 20:44 Will it be based in Eindhoven together with the Dutch A330MRTT's?

Will there be 'NATO' on the plane or 'Belgian Air Force'?
