Yes Rafale for the belgian air force!cathay belgium wrote:Hi,
Regarding TRUMP... the F35 saga..
Guess Belgium and Europe can rely only on themselves in the future..
Best solution guess RAFALE, proven best thing ... no need to be capable of carrying USA nukes ( send them back ).. better french ones
What will be next on our government agenda... kiss Trump ass or stay strong on our own in our own european defense forces... ?

It all will depend on economic compensations. The F-35 keeps its chances more than ever.

With the supply chain and factory network already set up, I can't see in which ways the F-35 has more chances than ever...sn26567 wrote:It all will depend on economic compensations. The F-35 keeps its chances more than ever.
The belgian factories which are working in the aeronautical field have already said, even if they're not the ones deciding, that the Rafale (I have no personnal interest in it or in another plane) would be the best option for them. I do suppose that they know what they're talking about

Regarding nuclear capability: the money USA pays Belgium to have the nuclear capability in Belgium is huge and Belgium needs that money. So whatever happens, the government will do everything to keep that nuclear availability, no need to dream anything else.

Dassault being a main shareholder at Sabca, it would be logical to go Rafale.
Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?
Now that Trump has made his show about the high cost of the F-35, it might become more competitive in the near future?

Hi,
Now Trump-USA is declaring war to NATO, is for america First... we should do the same !
Buy and hire European ! We can only trust ourselves not Britain, not USA, not Sweden !
Rafale should , must be the only reasonable and honest option for europe !
Only on Rafale we our independent of spare parts, evolution, ...
Go europe ! Europe First !

Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II
President Trump wants to make things in America, so the chance that we may make components for the F-35 is small and the purchase price will be more expensive than the Euro Fight Typhoon. Personally I find, however, that the F-35 Lightning II has a nicer design (this seeing as spotter) - But you can not look away from the Eurofighter Typhoon here we can make the purchase fall through private contributions of our aviation companies + combat fighter to fighter, the Eurofighter will still likely have the upper hand

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?
All our F-16 partners (Netherlands, Denmark, Norway) have chosen the F35. As usual, Belgium is lagging behind and is the slowest to replace its fleet...
Anyway, if we want to cooperate more intensely with the Netherlands (as we already do today, there is a Benelux-agreement for air defence) we HAVE to go for the same type, the F-35. Simple as that.
I don't think the others make a chance.
(And let's be honest, the F-35 is the most advanced one)

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?
You mean the most expensive to buy and operate, the less efficient, the one which will bring the least to the belgian economy and the one which is still far from being ready?
Yeah, definitely the most "advanced"...

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?
Hi,
We need a european air defense in the future independent from the USA, I guess instead of Holland we better choice the type as France, Germany ,.... Eurofighter or Rafale !
I dare to say ' Europe First '
Better fit our wallet, our economy and in any dogfight we shoot any F35 from the sky, a proven fact actually, if we don't need this actions you might say order rockets, drones and Spy-sattelites ,.. For guiding or intrcepting An alpha jet will do the same lol

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?
I'm sorry to say... but an European solution is not always the best. See our Airbus A400M : to large and not fitted to use on a tactical scale. Landing on bad grounds are difficult + enormous amount of problems with the introduction of the plane. Best solution: the F-18. That plane has proved its valours and is a supplement for the F-35. Where the F-35 is failing, there the F-18 can fill these short-comings.
