Books/Videos On Belgian Aviation

Post by Comet »

Are there any good books or videos (in English) relating to Belgian airlines and/or airports? I have one book on Brussels Airport history, but I wondered if there are any other good ones I could look out for.

I just looked at that site, and the only book about Brussels (or Belgian aviation) was the one I already have.

I asked this question on my Yahoo Group a few weeks ago and got no response, so it looks like there really is nothing much written in English about Belgian aviation, which is a shame really.

Comet,
I've got a book dealing with the bru airport history. I don't know if it's the one you have. Have done a search thru that above mentioned website, but nothing came up.

This one was published by "Het streekboek"
tel 32-3-7777558/fax 32-3-7664482
isbn 90-76495-03-3
it's in english and it's got a drawing of Jaak De Koninck on the cover (he is "running" Starbrook Airlines).
If you do a search thru goodle on streekboek+bru it's one of the first one's comming up

Good luck

That sounds like the one I have - called "Brussels Airport - The History of Haren, Melsbroek and Zaventem" by Frans Van Humbeek. I still think it's strange that it is probably the only English language book on the subject.

It's a great book by the way!!

Correct, that's the one I mean.

Lot's of authentic pictures.
I know he (FransVH) did a lot of research. For his other book, History of Grimbergen, he even went to the UK to talk to former pilots who were based there during the war

Comet,
I have a book called 'Air Nostalgie', it is a picture book about the history of Sabena. I know it is not in English (it has comments in Dutch and French), but as it is all about those pictures, you could consider this one!

The ISBN number is: 90-5617-426-6

When I was looking in the shop at Antwerp Airport I came across a book detailing the history of VLM. It's called (in English) "VLM - 10 years In The Air".

It's full of photos of VLM aircraft, the history of the company, facts about the airports that VLM fly into, the registrations (and current names) of each aircraft in the fleet. There are also pictures of potential liveries, VLM advert campaigns etc. The text is in English and Dutch (it also has a Dutch title on the front but I won't write it in here in case I mis-spell it!!)

The cost is around 13 Euros 85.
