Unidentifed aircraft in Maxton, NC

Post by nwa757 »

Any idea who this aircraft in the foreground used to belong to? It looks like it may have been an old Midwest Express aircraft but I am not sure.

The plane looks like a DC-9 or MD-80, but on 'Airliners.net' I haven't found a singel picture of these types in the latest US Airways c/s.

Note the built-in front stairs like on the B737.

The previous Federal Express scheme was dark blue not darl grey.

I still think there is a connection with US Airways.

I can't find any pictures of a dc-9 operating for FedEX. Still, aren't windows replaced in cargo aircraft. Perhaps a Midwest (express)?

Hi Lyulka,

I came up with the Federal Express colours because i thought this cockpit was from a DC-8. The other cockpit on the pic was a DC-8.

BTW how do you see this is a DC-9? What are the cockpit differences?

FedEx operated DC-8s, like this http://www.airliners.net/open.file/169019/L/
so i thought the plane which we are looking for was a repainted DC-8. (without repainting the belly offcourse)

If you compare the coloursheme of the unidentified cockpit with this pic http://www.airliners.net/open.file/214405/L/ you see how similar the colours are.
I know my idea is based on a few suppositions, but i was just giving my thought.

Sorry Andre but i'm colour-blind and than things like this can happen.

The DC-8 has little air intakes in the nose of the aircraft. The DC-9 doesn't.

See,

Air intake: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/409782/L/

No air intake: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/369073/L/

That's the only difference I could find.

In addition to NWA757's reply, the DC-9 passenger door is closer to the cockpit than on the DC-8 and has the airstair door below(don't remember DC-8's having this).

The picture certainly looks like Air Midwest c/s to me and they have replaced Dc-9's with 717's recently.
