Fifth Freedom Flights in Europe

Post by cathay belgium »

Hi,

As we saw recently some members are up to fly special rare birds around europe with very
rare airliners for us in BRU.. as so called fifth freedom rights - routings.

We saw last week a very nice tripreport of a CDG-MAD with LanChile A340,
I read on a report on another aviation site about a MUN-MAN trip with SIA 777 and I remember
last winter United's flights BRU-LHR on B777.

Do other memebers know other lines wich are active right now or will be in the future and which are bookable offcourse ..
Nice to see/know and it can alert some members to prepare their occasionally rare flights..

Interesting topic. What is the policy of the Belgian gornment on granting or not granting fifth freedom rights to a foreign airline? Is this info available somewhere on the web?

I've read somewhere about the possibility to book BRU-MXP and MXP-BRU flights in the future with ET 757. Don't know if it's true and when this will be possible.

You can fly from CDG to Rome FCO with Kuwait Airways. Dep. 9.45 - arr. 11.55 KU 0166
on TU-WE-FR-SUN. Until October. Flight is operated with an AB6
I did it last year, Paid 160 € R/T. Quite exotic really..

Out of topic, but interesting news anyway, showing that fifth freedom rights are not disappearing: Turkish Airlines has just been given fifth freedom rights for the Singapore-Jakarta leg of the daily Istanbul–Singapore–Jakarta route.

Just took LA705 FRA-MAD.
I fly intra-EU in J quite a lot due to the fact it is always in connection with a longhaul J or F - but of course in 99.9% of the cases it generally sucks and consists of a Y seat with seatblocking and some amenities nobody really needs (unless on busy days as a non-status pax).
But wow - this is something else! 787, flatbed, full service - and cheap as well!
