AA B777 at BRU

Post by Apuneger »

Hi guys,

This afternoon, at about 13h15 or so, I saw an American Airlines B777 take off from BRU, RWY 25R. I was quite surprised to see this bird at BRU. First time I get to see an AA 777 at BRU.

I´m sure this was a one-off experience, due to excessive bookings or so. Could anybody give me some more details? have any of you already seen an AA 777 at BRU? Quite nice to see an exotic bird (well, in terms of BRU the 777 -certainly an AA one- ís quite exotic) at BRU.

Oh yeah, for those of you that are interested: landings were on RWY 20 today... (well, everytime I looked outside I saw a/c landing on RWY 20 that is).
Sabena 690: No problem. And I don´t know why they don´t do this on sundays. I just wish they did

Another thing: today, my boss told me that this wasn´t a simple replacement of the normal 767 flight (normally, AA has one 767 flight to ORD if I´m correct). Before we saw the 777 take off, he had already seen the 767 depart. He made a theory that maybe the US Army chartered an AA 777 to fly troops to the Gulf. He told me that the US Government has the power to charter US aircraft to fly for e.g. the US Army.
Wrong theory from your boss

It was a diversion from LHR. Due to high winds and long holding times, it diverted to Brussels.

BTW: the charters for the US militaries to the Golf are done by World Airways I believe.

The last weekend of September ( anniversary C-130 ) I saw and heard a triple seven from Egyptair take-off on RWY 25R. I was standing on the military apron so I could get a good look. The sound off those giant turbines was magnificient!!

[ This message was edited by: MD-11 on 24-02-2003 11:41 ]

Hello MD11,

MS regularly flies the B777 to Brussels, together with the B743 (now scheduled on the Sunday afternoon flight from Luxor), the A320-A321, the A300 and the A342 (from time to time).

The B777 is one of my favourite aircrafts, but personally I still prefer the aircraft that is in your nickname, the MD-11! Too bad they are almost withdrawn from passenger-flights... I hope to fly Finnair soon to New York or Tokyo Narita (I want a ride on OH-LGE, ex OO-CTC of Sabena-CTB).

The MD-11 is also my favourite. I had the chance to fly with OO-CTB "Albatros" from City Bird to Miami in September ´99. On the flight back to Brussels I stayed about 15 minuts in the cockpit.
What I remember most of it was the sensation of the tail engine pushing in your back on climb-out. Great feeling!
Have you seen the MD-11 from Cathay during finals in Kai Tak that I drew?
Look on my "site"...
Greetz...
