Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

I believe SN would have been a better investment for EY than AZ, for example.
Less of a behemoth, easier to implement changes, growth.

Too bad SN decided to afford another 3 years of takeover option to LH, but I suspect it was tied to a loan from LH, without which, they wouldn't have survived.

Re: Emirates to Brussels?

Agree. Little value in offering traffic rights to UAE. Except for TNT operating cargo on behalf of EK.
I hope other countries will realize that they are indeed putting their own carriers in jeopardy by allowing EK in. But I suppose it will be too late then.

Re: French woman denied entry into US

Could it just be a coincidence? I saw her on tv. She said her husband and kids would have been allowed to travel. But not her. Swiss stated they received a notification by us immigration in the morning before the flight. Really, I wouldn't be surprised if the trouble really comes from her name. edit...

French woman denied entry into US

Because her name sounds like Al Qaeda (Aïda Alic)

Please, this is really stupid!
Hope she'll see her money back.

Re: SN launches new website.

hi exsabena. I don't see anything wrong with "envoyer un mail". Out of context of course. But indeed, just browsing for a minute and I noticed: "sans doute vous y trouverez..." instead of "sans doute y trouverez-vous" Otherwise, I find the website globally nice to brows...

Another disadvantage I see, is that by adding more technology, you add more chances for something to fail.

Re: Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has crashed into Indian O

I agree that they shouldn't have cancelled the searches on the north route. If we consider 3 scenari: 1 - Pilot suicide: the airplane might be anywhere, so searching the south route makes sense in a way 2 - Hijack: the north route makes more sense (plane on its way to some terrorist-friendly country...

Yes, they can be switched off by the pilots. So they don't overwrite after an incident.

Apparently, pilot suicide was not taken into consideration.

Yes, rafts come with chemical sea water distiller.
and if weather was bad, they could collect rain.

But I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Re: Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with flight M

Well, if latest " information" about a descent to 12000ft after the turn is correct, that'd comfort my idea of a catastrophy. pilot trying to get back to an airport and descend because of depressurization. what next? If pilots died because of malfunction in their oxygen system, the plane c...

Re: Lufthansa pilots announce strike

Finding another job is fine when there are more jobs opportunities than job seekers. the free market would eventually push salaries up. but now (specially in europe) that there are fewer jobs, it's a race to the bottom for work conditions. And it's probably cheaper for LH to offer a pay raise coveri...

Re: Consumer organisations rate Belgian airlines and Ryanair

And hence my point (in another topic) that SN should still aim at providing a good service and comfort.
if not, nothing will differentiate them from FR, except for a more expensive ticket.

Re: Consumer organisations rate Belgian airlines and Ryanair

I agree. The BRU terminal A walk is a bloody long walk. And Sean, don't be mad about the survey. It is true people are less satisfied flying with FR than with SN. And less satisfied with SN than with EK, for example. That doesn't mean they will switch from FR to SN, if the price remains sensibly che...

Re: Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with flight M

I didn't know airlines had the choice between chemical / bottles.
I thought they were standard for each airplane type. I.e. chemical on avro - bottles on B777.

But I admit I have no idea about MH, then.

Indeed, supply different for pilots and pax.

Masks would deploy automatically, but the pilots can shut down the oxygen supply with a switch.

Re: Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with flight M

Max operating altitude (service ceiling) is a certification which i.e. allows the aircraft to get down quick enough to a safe altitude in case of depressurization. The 747-8 was limited to a lower altitude than the 747-400 due to a better wing, and a slower time to get down. As for trying, do it in ...

What about the aircraft who said it heard the pilots say that cabin was desintegrating? Or the oil rig workers having seen an explosion? I get lost between facts, "facts" and rumours... But it could be an explanation. Sudden loss of oxygen due rapid decompression (explosion). Pilots turn t...

Re: Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with flight M

multiple reasons possible:

wind trade-off (e.g. more tailwind at FL350 compared to 370)
Heavier weight due, like you say, to cargo or to extra fuel carried on.
Traffic already at FL370

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

Good for SN if they are on track to profitability. But are these cut cost sustainable? I mean, flexibility, salary cost, etc... employees care about their job, but if SN eventually makes money, employees will want to have their advantages back. Or they will strike, or leave. So, beyond 2015, black n...
